Alexander Zverev completed a hat-trick of titles in Munich.
Alexander Zverev reached his first final since Australian Open 2025, at the start of the year and defeated Ben Shelton to register his third title at Munich Open. The German finally managed to end his dry spell with a dominant run, defeating the likes of Alexander Muller, Daniel Altmaier, Tallon Griekspoor and Fabian Marozsan on his path to glory.
Zverev briefly lost his World No #2 ranking to Carlos Alcaraz after Monte Carlo 2025, but his title win in Munich helped him reclaim the spot. While the draw in Munich was relatively favourable, the title victory serves as a timely confidence boost for the 26-year-old as he heads into the Madrid Open 2025.
Ben Shelton became the first American man since Andre Agassi in 2002 to reach the final of an ATP-500 clay event, after surviving a nail-biter in his first-round match and overcoming Francisco Cerundolo 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 to make the final.
âItâs extremely special, I always love winning tournaments in Germany. Itâs probably the most special thing I can do. Itâs definitely a great birthday present, letâs put it that way,â said the 26-year-old following his triumph. âI definitely knew I had to play my best tennis today, Ben has been playing extremely well this week,â added Zverev.
