Injuries have kept Nick Kyrgios out of action for nine months from the official ATP tour.
The 2026 season is going to be an important one for Nick Kyrgios, as the Australian is finally regaining fitness, and is set to mark his return to the ATP tour after nine months.
Kyrgios has featured in multiple exhibition events in December 2025, including a four-day event in India’s Banglore at the World Tennis League.
The Australian was last seen on tour at the Miami Open. Karen Khachanov had beaten Kyrgios in the second round, and he has since, not featured in any of the tournaments, including Grand Slams.
Prior to every major event, including Wimbledon, Kyrgios headlined his willingness to compete, only to withdraw nearer to the competition.
It is well known that after grass, hard courts remain his most effective surface. However, time is running out for Nick Kyrgios, as failure to reach peak physical condition during the Australian hard-court swing on home soil could push him closer to an early retirement.
The former Wimbledon finalist has slipped to a career-low ranking of No. 668, having played just one Grand Slam match since his run to the US Open quarterfinals in 2022.
His return to professional tennis in 2026 is set to begin at the Brisbane International, an ATP 500 event where he featured in both singles and doubles last season, though without much success.
Kyrgios is also set to appear at the inaugural 1 Point Slam, an exhibition event likely to feature stars such as Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff, alongside amateurs and celebrity wildcards. The winner’s purse stands at approximately $650,000 USD.
Some of the top names headlining the field at the ATP Brisbane International include Daniil Medvedev, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jiří Lehečka, Tommy Paul, Denis Shapovalov, João Fonseca, Cameron Norrie, and Learner Tien.
