Djokovic’s racquet from the 2012 Australian Open final sold for $540,000.

The racquet that Novak Djokovic used to defeat Rafael Nadal at the 2012 Australian Open, the longest Grand Slam final in history, has fetched a record breaking $540,000 in auction.

After the five hours and 53 minutes title round clash, Djokovic took home the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup for the third year in a row. It was also his fourth Grand Slam title, having won his first Wimbledon title the previous season.

The $540,000 price tag makes it the most expensive piece of tennis memorabilia ever sold.  Auctioned by SCP Auctions, the sale price for the HEAD YouTek Speed MP 315 racquet has eclipsed the $238,000 paid for a Carlos Alcaraz trading card and the $173,000 for the racquet Alcaraz used to beat Djokovic in 2023 for his first Wimbledon title.

Billie Jean King’s Wilson autographed racquet used in the 1973 Battle of the Sexes match went for $125,000, while Roger Federer’s 2011 French Open Racquet fetched $55,000.

Djokovic had defeated Nadal in an epic five-setter (5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5) to win the tournament. It was also the longest match in Australian Open history, apart from being the longest Grand Slam final.
