Novak Djokovic quashes reports about his participation at ATP Finals 2025; says no decision made yet

Djokovic is a seven-time winner and also oldest champion in the competition.

Contrary to claims by Italian Tennis Federation head Angelo Binaghi, Novak Djokovic clarified on Tuesday that he has yet to confirm his participation at the year-ending ATP Finals.

“I don’t know where he (Binaghi) got this information from. Certainly not from me or my team,” Djokovic told reporters after defeating Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo 7-6(3), 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals. “I will make my decision at the end of this tournament.”

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is currently in Athens for the inaugural Hellenic Championships.

Djokovic, a former World No. 1, contradicted Binaghi’s claim a day after the Tennis Federation President Angelo Binaghi stated that the seven-time champion would return to Turin for the prestigious year-ending event.

The Serbian star made a winning start in Athens over Alejandro Tabilo, defeating the Chilean for the first time in three meetings. Djokovic overcame Tabilo to reach his 225th tour-level quarter-final, after turning the tables on Tabilo in the Greek capital. The top seed awaits Portugal’s Nuno Borges in the last eight in Athens.

Djokovic shrugged off a slow start before taking charge in the opening set tiebreak, breaking the Chilean twice in the tiebreak to win the hour-long first set. The Serb dominated the second set, to wrap up the match in one hour and 41 minutes on his second match-point after Tabilo’s forehand sailed long.

Having skipped the 2024 ATP Finals despite qualifying, Djokovic continues to scale back on his commitments in the 2025 season. The 38-year-old reached the semi-finals at all four Grand Slams and the Shanghai Masters.

He also reached the finals at the ATP Masters 1000 Miami in March and won the Geneva Open two months later for his 100th tour-level title.

Djokovic’s statement casts a shadow over whether the 18-time qualifier will compete in Turin for a record-extending eighth ATP Finals crown.
