Novak Djokovic makes his prediction for Wimbledon 2025 title

The Serbian Novak Djokovic overcame Alex de Minaur in a closely fought fourth-round match.

Novak Djokovic enjoyed three dominating victories in his first three rounds of Wimbledon 2025, against lower-ranked opponents.

However, he met a fierce rival in the form of Alex de Minaur in the round of 16 encounter. The Australian managed to do what nobody has ever done in the past two decades, reducing Djokovic to 1-6 in the opening set.

Things looked ominous for the Serbian, who could not hold his serve at all and was being made to toil hard for every point by the 26-year-old. After a couple of breaks and break-backs, the sequence was finally halted by the 7-time champion, who began to find his first serves, when he needed them the most.

Somehow, despite a lot of errors, the Serbian prevailed in the second set. He continued to perform brilliantly on some occasions, although he did not display the consistency he had shown in the previous rounds. As the match progressed, the 11th seed made errors, which Djokovic took full advantage of and won the match in four sets, including a dramatic comeback after trailing 1-4.

During the post-match press conference, journalists asked Djokovic what his former coach Goran Ivanisevic thought. The Croatian believes that the Serbian is a better contender for the Wimbledon 2025 title, as compared to two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

While Djokovic appreciated his former coach for showing him love, he made it crystal clear that he is not the favorite for the title.

“I love Goran and I’m happy he loves me back but I don’t think I’m a favorite against these guys at the moment. I think they are, both of them (Sinner and Alcaraz)”, said Djokovic in a honest admission.

However, after Sinner’s walkover win, the Serbian will certainly have the belief to pull off a memorable victory over the top seed.

The 38-year-old reckons that grass is the best surface for him to beat these two top players, and his record at the Championship is a testimony to his excellent performance and consistency over the years at Wimbledon.

“But I do probably have my best chance here against them. If it comes down to me facing one of them or two of them, which I hope so.. that means I’ll proceed to the finals.. then I’ll obviously look for my best game to win. I think I do have a chance. There’s no doubt about it. I think my results on grass, even in the previous years, are a testament to my confidence on this surface. I’ve been playing some really good tennis this year. I feel good about myself. I feel confident. I feel motivated to go all the way. Let’s see what happens.”

Novak Djokovic will face Flavio Cobolli next in the quarter-finals. The pair have met just once before on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic winning comfortably in straight sets. Now eyeing a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title, the Serbian legend will be eager to continue his charge and prove that his former coach’s bold prediction comes true.
