Novak Djokovic vs Filip Misolic prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Italian Open 2025

Djokovic is 6-0 on clay since his Geneva title run.

By winning his first tour-level title since November 2023 in Geneva this season, Novak Djokovic has won six straight matches on clay. Djokovic defeated Mackenzie McDonald and Corentin Moutet in his opening rounds to set up a third-round match against Austrian Filip Misolic.

Djokovic, the No #6 seed, breezed past McDonald (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) in straight sets and registered a similar result against Moutet. The Serb had to shut down an attempt by the latter to claw his way back late in the third set when Moutet pushed Djokovic to a tie-break. The three-time French Open winner disappointed the home crowd when he bundled out Moutet 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(1) in 3 hours and five minutes.

The 38-year-old Djokovic will now face Filip Misolic for a milestone 99th win at the venue. Victory against Misolic would seem him equal his haul of 99 wins at the Australian Open.

Misolic, 23, is making his second main draw appearance at Roland Garros. The Austrian battled through three rounds of qualifying to register his best result in Paris. The unseeded Misolic prevailed over No #27 seed Denis Shapovalov in a marathon five-setter 7-6(5), 7-6(6), 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, in 4 hours and 15 minutes to set up a maiden clash with Djokovic.

Preview

Filip Misolic ranked No 153, broke new ground on Thursday in Paris when he upset 31st-ranked Denis Shapovalov on Court 6 in five sets. In the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time, Misolic faces Djokovic for a first career meeting against a top 10 player.

The unseeded Misolic reached the quarter-finals at Bucharest in March this year, where he lost to Flavio Cobolli. He went on to defeat Dutchman Guy Den Ouden in the finals of the Challenger event in Prague earlier this month. The Austrian’s best result at an ATP event came on home soil in 2022, when he made the title round in Kitzbuhel.

After Djokovic fell to Jakub Mensik in the finals of the ATP Masters 1000 Miami in March, he delivered his 100th title at the Geneva Open earlier this month. The former World No. #1 survived an opening set deficit in the title round at Geneva, where Hurkacz claimed the first set. The Serb kept his cool to prevail 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(2) and become just the third man to win 100 titles or more.

Match Prediction

Filip Misolic will wade into uncharted waters when he takes on Novak Djokovic on Saturday for a spot in the round of 16. The Austrian, once Djokovic’s training partner, will play the 24-time Grand Slam champion for the first time.

From outside the ATP Top 300 at the beginning of January, Misolic enjoyed a remarkable rise to his current ranking of No. #153. While Misolic has had to grind his way to the third round, he is no stranger to playing five-setters. At last year’s French Open, he prevailed in an opening round five-set match against Otto Virtanen before losing to Francisco Cerundolo in the second round.

Novak Djokovic has opened his 2025 French Open campaign with straightforward wins. None of the Serbian’s opponents so far have been any real threat. Djokovic overcame Moutet, the boisterous French crowd and a blister en route to his 98th win on French soil.

Djokovic heads into this clash his usual clinical self, while Milosic arrives with nothing to lose against the Serbian star. If the Austrian is fortunate, he could push Djokovic to four sets before the Serb summons his experience to see him through.

Result: Novak Djokovic to win in straight sets.
