Only three players have won the Miami Open title after turning 30.

Andre Agassi and Novak Djokovic have won the Miami Open six times, the most by any individual. However, there are multiple other perspectives to seek these statistics. Tennis is a physically demanding sport, and since the inception of the Miami Open in 1985, only three players have won the title after the age of 30.

Thus, let’s look at the top five oldest men’s singles champions at the Miami Open without further ado.

5. Ivan Lendl: 29 Years, 27 days

Ivan Lendl won his first Miami Open title in 1986 after he defeated Swedish legend Mats Wilander in the summit clash. However, his second title has helped him take the fifth spot in the list. In 1989, the former Czech tennis player got a walkover as Thomas Muster was forced to withdraw.

Lendl is also an eight-time Grand Slam champion but failed to complete the Career Slam. He lost in the final of the Wimbledon Championships two consecutive years, in 1986 and 1987.

4. Thomas Muster: 29 years, 5 months, 28 days

After missing the 1989 Miami Open final, Thomas Muster won at Key Biscayne in 1997. Seeded second in the competition, he defeated Jim Courier and Jonas Björkman in the knockout rounds to reach the final, where he stunned Spain’s Sergi Bruguera in three sets. Muster played ten Masters Series finals in his professional career, losing the first and last.

3. John Isner: 32 years, 11 months, 6 days

Former American tennis star John Isner had quite a year in 2018. He reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon and quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows before coming up short against Kevin Anderson and Juan Martin del Potro in the knockout rounds. Isner also reached a career-best ranking of 8 in July of that year.

Seeded 14th at Key Biscayne, Isner recorded a resounding victory over former World No. 3 Marin Cilic in the fourth round. Later, he stunned Del Potro in the last four before beating Alexander Zverev to clinch the title 6–7(4–7), 6–4, 6–4.

2. Andre Agassi: 33 years, 1 day

Andre Agassi stunned Stefan Edberg, one of the most lethal servers in the game’s history, to win his maiden title in Key Biscayne in 1990. He later returned to win two more titles in 1995 and 1996. Between 2001 and 2003, he defeated the likes of Jan-Michael Gambill, Roger Federer, and Carlos Moya to win three more titles.

In 2003, Andre Agassi won his last Miami Open title after stunning Spaniard Moya 6-3, 6-3. At the time, the Olympic gold medallist won his sixth title at Key Biscayne, aged 33.

1. Roger Federer: 37 Years, 235 Days

Swiss maestro Roger Federer‘s excellence on the tennis court is second to none. The 20-time Grand Slam champion was a pleasure to behold and a master of his work. In 2005, Federer won his first Miami Open title by beating Rafael Nadal in a hard-fought five-setter. He defended his title next year after defeating Ivan Ljubicic in the final.

However, he returned after over a decade to win his third title at Key Biscayne (in 2017). His final title in Miami came in 2019 when he defeated John Isner and became the oldest player in history to win the Miami Open at 37.
