Jannik Sinner will defend his men’s singles title at the 2024 Canadian Open on August 7.
Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has revealed that he’s unhappy about not being able to play at Paris Olympics 2024. The 22-year-old also revealed that playing at Paris was one of his main targets in the ongoing season.
Jannik Sinner, who was seeded first for the Paris Olympics 2024 ahead of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, withdrew from the competition due to fitness issues. He pulled out of the tournament due to tonsillitis. Before the Olympics, he also pulled out from the Bastad Open due to fatigue.
The Italian tennis star has revealed that he’s not happy about missing the Olympics. He said, “I saw some of the Olympics, although I didn’t watch much tennis. It broke my heart not to be able to go to Paris, the Games were one of my main goals of the season.”
Apart from that, he also heaped praise on compatriot Lorenzo Musetti, who has been in decent form since the Wimbledon Championships. Musetti reached the semifinals at the All England Lawn Tennis Club with a memorable five-set victory over America’s Taylor Swift.

However, his journey ended in the last four after he lost to Novak Djokovic. Lorenzo Musetti also reached the semifinals of Paris Olympics 2024 with wins over defending champion Alexander, Taylor Fritz, Mariano Navone and Gael Monfils. Nevertheless, his campaign came to a halt against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Later, Musetti defeated Canada’s Felix Augur Aliassime to win a bronze medal for Italy in the men’s singles event. Sinner said about the 22-year-old, “Musetti won a bronze, so an Italian is happy and I am happy for him.”
Fortunately, the ATP World No. #1 has returned to tennis and will be playing in the ATP Canadian Open. He will commence his campaign in Montreal on August 7. Interestingly, he will also team up with British tennis star Jack Draper to play doubles at the Canadian Open.
Draper and Sinner will face the Belgian pair of Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen. Jannik Sinner won 4 titles in 2024, namely, the Australian Open, the ATP Rotterdam, the Miami Open and the Halle Open.
