Jannik Sinner edged past Alexander Zverev to lift his fifth Grand Slam title.
Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title after coming from a set down to beat Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 in a gripping men’s singles final on Centre Court. The Italian claimed his fifth Grand Slam title after three hours and 46 minutes, becoming only the 10th man in the Open Era to successfully defend the Wimbledon crown.
The victory also extended Sinner’s dominance over Zverev, improving his head-to-head record to 11-4 with a 10-match winning streak. The contest was evenly poised through the opening two sets, both decided by tiebreaks, before a pivotal moment arrived midway through the third set. Zverev slipped while chasing a drop shot, allowing Sinner to seize the initiative and earn the first service break of the match.
The World No. 1 never relinquished control thereafter, breaking again in the fourth set to close out the victory. He had earlier also demolished Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, winning in straight sets without being broken even once during the entire course of the match.
This was a much-needed statement triumph, helping him once again cement himself as the dominant force on the ATP Tour.
