List of players who have withdrawn from US Open 2026
Several top players will miss US Open 2026.
Every year the build-up to the seasonās last major brings its share of bad news, but 2026 has been unusually rough. Long before the first ball was struck at Flushing Meadows, organisers were already reworking both draws to account for a wave of withdrawals.
While the tennis fraternity will be thankful that Carlos Alcaraz does not feature in this list anymore, several high-profile names will not be featuring at this yearās US Open. Several other players, including WTA World No. 2 Elena Rybakina, continue to be doubtful for the tournament, indicating that this list could potentially grow.
On that note, letās take a look at the top tennis stars who have pulled out of the US Open 2026.
Players who have withdrawn from the US Open 2026
Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere
12. Marin Cilic
The 2014 US Open champion pulled out just a few hours ahead of his opening match against Andrey Rublev. He has been replaced by lucky loser Otto Virtanen.
11. Casper Ruud
Casper Ruud, who was scheduled to open his camapign against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, was forced to pull out due to a persistent back injury. The Norwegian had previously forfeited his contest mid-match in Cincinnati, and while he competed in the US Open mixed doubles, his injury woes were out there for everyone to see.
10. Jaqueline Cristian
Jaqueline Cristian is one of the top WTA players missing from the draw this year, and her case is a little different from the rest on this list because no official reason has actually been given. The Romanian, who climbed to a career-high No. 28 earlier in the season, was replaced by Darja Vidmanova once her name dropped off the entry list.
9. Sebastian Korda
Sebastian Korda underwent back surgery after months of fighting sciatica that just wouldnāt ease off. He said on social media that he had spent about four months trying to manage it conservatively before he and his medical team decided surgery was the only real path forward. It is a costly absence too, since it wipes out a chunk of the ranking points which the American had built up climbing back toward the top 20.
8. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
This has been a tough second-half of the 2026 season for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina because he had been playing some of the best tennis of his career. A back issue flared up right after Wimbledon, leading to his omissions from Montreal, Cincinnati, and now the US Open. Given how well he had been hitting on hard courts recently, his absence leaves a noticeable gap in the menās draw.
7. Laura Siegemund
Not every withdrawal on this list comes down to an injury, and Laura Siegemundās is the clearest example. After going out in the first round at Wimbledon, the German announced she was taking a break from competition altogether, skipping the entire hard-court swing along with the US Open itself.
In her own words, she wanted time to recharge both mentally and physically before figuring out what comes next. No return date has been set.
6. Hailey Baptiste
Hailey Baptiste was having a breakout year, one that took her to a career-high spot inside the worldās top 25, before everything came crashing down at Roland Garros. She tore her ACL and meniscus in her left knee during her second-round match in Paris, an injury serious enough to end her season and, with it, her chance to play in front of a home crowd in New York.
5. Holger Rune
Rune hasnāt played a competitive match since October, when he tore his Achilles tendon in a semi-final in Stockholm. There were flickers of hope when photos surfaced of him training with Carlos Alcaraz in Spain just weeks before the tournament, but in the end he and his team decided a five-set Grand Slam wasnāt the right place to restart his season.
4. Emma Raducanu
After a promising 2025, 2026 has not turned out to be the year Emma Raducanu was hoping for. The Britās season has been defined by one setback after another, and this is just the latest.
A stress fracture in her right leg, the same injury that kept her out of Wimbledon, has now cost her the tournament where her career first took off back in 2021. Her medical team advised against risking a return, so another Grand Slam goes by without her.
3. Victoria Mboko
Victoria Mbokoās 2026 season was cut short when a fall at the Queenās Club Championships in June left her with a torn MCL in her left knee. It had already ruled her out of Wimbledon, and while there was some hope sheād be fit in time for New York, her name wasnāt on the entry list when it was released.
The Canadian is easily one of the WTAās most talented youngsters, and her absence from the field will be felt. Earlier, she missed her home event (Canadian Open) as well, where she was the reigning champion.
2. Joao Fonseca
Joao Fonseca picked up an abdominal injury during a practice session at the Cincinnati Open and just couldnāt shake it off in time. Itās a particularly painful one for the young Brazilian, who reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at the French Open this year and has history at Flushing Meadows, having won the boysā title there back in 2023.
1. Jannik Sinner
Just a day after Alcarazās comeback announcement, Jannik Sinner announced his withdrawal. The World No. 1 pulled out with a right knee injury that has kept him sidelined ever since he defended his Wimbledon title in July.
The Italian said he and his medical staff made the call after realising he still needed more time, even after getting back on court in Monte Carlo to test things out. This will be the first Grand Slam he will miss since making his major debut back in 2019, and it strips the tournament of its defending finalist and the man most expected to win it.
