Djokovic has the most match wins at SW19.

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

Novak Djokovic has etched his name in the tennis record books once more. With a fourth-round victory over Roman Safiullin, the 39-year-old Serb is on 106 match wins at Wimbledon, surpassing Roger Federer (105).

Though not at his clinical best, Djokovic found a way past Safiullin, 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to go past another milestone at the All England Club and reach his ninth consecutive quarterfinal at the grass-court major.

Safiullin, who came through qualifying, pushed the seven-time champion on centre court for his 17th quarterfinal at the venue. Wu Yibing and Arthur Rinderknech stretched the Serbian veteran in previous rounds. Djokovic maintained his dominance over the Russian, extending his head-to-head lead to 4-0 in their first grand slam face-off.

Djokovic is now one victory away from a semifinal spot and a potential clash against World No.1 Jannik Sinner. Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime stands in the way of the Djokovic – Sinner reunion.

Felix Auger-Aliassime had to dig deep against Alejandro Davidovich before emerging victorious in a five-set rollercoaster. Auger-Aliassime took the scenic route to outlast Fokina, 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-1 in a gruelling fourth-round battle.

It took Auger-Aliassime four hours, 26 minutes to quell the Spaniard’s spirited challenge and make the last eight at the All England Club for the first time since 2021.

The Canadian finished having fired 26 aces and saved six of seven break points to move ahead 4-1 in his head-to-head with Davidovich Fokina.

Preview

A tied head-to-head of 1-1 greets the competing duo of Novak Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Their last meeting was at the Laver Cup four years ago, when the Canadian got the better of Djokovic in straight sets.

The upcoming clash is the first at the Grand Slam stage, with the stakes high for both players. Djokovic is aiming for his eighth Wimbledon title, another Federer record, a few days after eclipsing the Swiss great’s tally of match wins.

It is now the business end of the tournament, with the Serb headed for another potential clash with top seed Jannik Sinner. While he has not been his usual dominant self, Djokovic pulled through and will play his 66th Grand Slam singles quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Match Prediction

The Wimbledon quarterfinal between Novak Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime is their first at a major, with the Canadian looking to derail Djokovic’s campaign.

Auger-Aliassime earned his spot in the quarterfinals after a five-set marathon against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Grass is not Auger-Aliassime’s favourite surface, with all nine of his tour-level titles coming on hard courts.

The Canadian is up against seven-time champion Novak Djokovic as World No. 4 from Montreal searches for a maiden semifinal appearance at the venue.

Result: Djokovic to win in straight sets.
