The 39-year-old Djokovic will now take on Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin, who got the better of Joao Fonseca earlier in the day. Safiullin claimed the 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 win over the Brazilian in two hours and 10 minutes.
The Serb leads their head-to-head 3-0, with Djokovic winning their previous meeting at the 2024 Shanghai Masters in straight sets.
