Canadaâs Leylah Fernandez claimed the WTA Singapore Open 2026 title on Sunday, comfortably beating Australiaâs Talia Gibson 7-5, 6-0 in the final to win her sixth career WTA title and her first since the Japan Open last year.
The Canadian saved a set point on her own serve at 5-4 in the opener but held her nerve and eventually closed it out in an hour and 38 minutes.
Fernandez had a standout week, dropping just a set all tournament, defeating top seed and French Open champion Mirra Andreeva in the quarter-finals before recovering from a set down to Roland Garros runners-up Maja Chwalinska in the semis.
For Gibson, it was a maiden WTA final that fell just short. Nevertheless, she reached a new career-high ranking of No. 37, while Fernandez jumped to 26th.
Fernandez was gracious in victory and was full of praise for Gibson during the trophy presentation: âYouâre an amazing player and an even better person, so congratulationsâ, she said.
