Qualifier Sara Bejlek stunned second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova to win her maiden WTA title.
The Abu Dhabi Open 2026 produced one of the most memorable campaigns in the tournament’s short history as Czech qualifier Sara Bejlek completed a dream breakthrough to lift her maiden WTA singles title.
Competing in just her second WTA 500 main draw, the 20-year-old defied rankings and expectations to cap a dream week on the Abu Dhabi hard courts.
Facing second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the final, Bejlek showed composure beyond her years. She edged a tense first set 7-6(5) after overturning a deficit in the tiebreak, before accelerating sharply in the second set to seal a 6-1 victory in one hour and 39 minutes.
Her ability to maintain intensity while capitalizing on Alexandrova’s physical struggles proved decisive.
Bejlek’s title run was historic on multiple fronts. She became the first qualifier and the first Czech player to win the Abu Dhabi title, and the second consecutive unseeded champion at the event.
With wins over Jelena Ostapenko, Clara Tauson, and Alexandrova, she doubled her career tally of Top 20 victories in a single week and jumped to the #38 position on the WTA rankings chart.
