The Swiss Indoors Basel 2026 delivered a week of emotional farewells and major upsets, with Valentin Vacherot eventually emerging as champion after defeating Jiri Lehecka in the final.
The tournament began with an emotional send-off for home favourite Stan Wawrinka, who brought his career to a close after a first-round defeat to Lehecka.
Novak Djokovic also made his first appearance in Basel since 2011, but his campaign ended in a dramatic second-round loss to Jan-Lennard Struff. Meanwhile, Swiss wild card Jerome Kym stunned top seed Ben Shelton in a match that extended past midnight.

Vacherot, meanwhile, produced an impressive series of performances, overcoming Rafael Jodar and Holger Rune before defeating sixth seed Taylor Fritz to reach the final.
The Monégasque completed his remarkable campaign by recovering from a set down to defeat Lehecka in the championship match.
The triumph also made him a Basel and Shanghai champion, joining Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only players to have won both titles. Vacherot’s success helped him return to the top 30 of the ATP rankings.
