WTA Tokyo Open 2026 payouts: How much did Diana Shnaider, Elena Rybakina & others earn in prize money?
Diana Shnaider clinched her first singles title of the season
WTA Tokyo Open 2026, the final WTA 500 event of the 2026 season, has been a week of attrition at the Ariake Coliseum. Defending champion Belinda Bencic pulled out on the opening day, joining Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Svitolina and Maja Chwalinska on the withdrawal list.
Top seed Elena Rybakina then withdrew from her quarter-final with an injury, which cleared the way for Leylah Fernandez. The Canadian has made the most of the open draw, beating Kamilla Rakhimova in the semis to reach her third WTA final of the year.
However, she suffered her second straight defeat in the championship match, this time at the hands of Diana Shnaider. The Russian won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to take the Tokyo title. Fernandez had also lost to Rybakina in straight sets in the Ningbo final a week earlier.
The win for Shnaider capped a week in which she survived a tight quarter-final against Alexandra Eala, and then overcame teenage wild card Mia Pohankova. After a strong Asian swing, the 22-year-old finished her 2026 season on a positive note.
