Milos Raonic reached the semifinals of the Wimbledon Championships in 2016.

Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic has set a new world record for the most aces scored in a best-of-three singles match.

Milos Raonic faced Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships on Monday, June 17. Interestingly, the match turned out to be a spectacle. Raonic and Norrie played two tiebreakers, as the Canadian had a first-serve winning percentage of 86.

However, the record that garnered major attention was his 47 aces. The previous record was held by Ivo Karlovic, who smashed 45 aces against Tomas Berdych during the quarterfinals of the 2015 Halle Open. Apart from the two, Mark Philippoussis, Nick Kyrgios, John Isner, Mardy Fish, and Reilly Opelka have scored more than 40 aces in a best-of-three match.

Milos Raonic is a former ATP World No. 3 and has won eight titles on the tour. In 2016, he reached the semifinals of the Australian Open. In addition to that, he also reached the final of the 2016 Wimbledon Championships.

However, due to injuries and fitness issues, the Canadian tennis star has played minimal tennis in the last few years. Raonic is currently #186 in the ATP rankings, and he has a win/loss record of 5/3 this season. In March, he was out of the top 200; however, it seems like he has found his rhyme in the grass season.

After the 6-7(6), 6-3, 7-6(9) win over Cameron Norrie for the first time in the Queen’s Club Championships, Milos Raonic stated that his serve has always been important to him.

He said, “With the scoreline and having to save match points, I probably needed every single one of those. But my serve has always been the most important shot to me. This small record, it’s something special, something meaningful.”

The Canadian tennis star added, “I’m glad that behind that also stands a win because maybe I’d feel differently or maybe a bit more sour if I was to get that many free points and lose the match. So overall, a very positive thing and a fun stat to be proud of.”

Raonic’s previous best in a best-of-three singles fixture came in 2011 at the Memphis Open, where he hit 38 aces in the second round against Czechia’s Radek Stepanek.
