Rafael Nadal has won 14 French Open titles, the most by any player.

Former Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal was asked to name all the French Open champions from 2000 during an interview with the ATP Tour in 2022. Not only the 14-time champ, but Gael Monfils, Ugo Humbert, Dusan Lajovic, Matteo Berrettini, Karen Khachanov, Casper Ruud, and Sebastian Korda were also a part of the game.

As the “head-to-head” game started, players were asked about how they felt they’d perform. To which, Berrettini replied, “I mean, it’s kind of easy because it’s Rafa.” Starting with naming the 2021 champion, all players gave the correct answer except Humbert, who confused Novak Djokovic with Nadal.

All tennis stars were giving correct answers until 2018. Things got tricky when they had to name the champion of the 2017 French Open. Monfils said, “I think I go for Stan in 2017. Stan is somewhere, you know.” However, the edition was also won by Nadal after he beat Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka in the summit clash.

The champions of 2015 and 2016 also startled the players, as most were confused between Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic. While naming the champion of the 2014 edition, Karen Khachanov said, “Federer, no, no. Federer was one year, but I don’t know which one.”

After eight rounds, where most of Rafael Nadal’s answers were “me”, only Dusan Lajovic was equal to the Spaniard with a perfect score. However, in 2012, Lajovic and Khachanov backed Federer. The Russian tennis star said, “Federer, I remember one year was Federer, but I don’t remember which year.”

Confusion continues over the year Roger Federer won the French Open. Berrettini credited the former Swiss tennis star for the win in 2011, and the same story was repeated later in 2010. The Italian tennis star stated, “2010, then it’s Roger. No, it’s not Roger.” Finally, Matteo Berrettini and Karen Khachanov took a sigh of relief when it came to 2009.

Between 2005 and 2008, all players gave correct answers, naming Nadal as the champion. Nevertheless, the stars made a lot of errors between 2004 and 2000. Only Nadal and Monfils got the correct answers for the last five years. Many answers favoured Carlos Moya, who won his only title in 1998.

Rafael Nadal won the “head-to-head” game and was the only player with all answers correct. Meanwhile, France’s Gael Monfils finished second with 21 correct answers.
