Apart from Roger Federer, Michael McIntyre, Carole and Michael Middleton were also present in the royal box.

Roger Federer’s popularity is as big as strawberries and cream and the iconic drink, Pimm’s Cup, at Wimbledon. Federer, an eight-time champion at the grass-court major, has called the All-England Club his second home several times in the past, being the most successful player in the competition’s history.

Since retiring from professional tennis in 2022, Roger Federer has attended SW19 as a guest of honour every season. He’s back this year again at the Royal Box and incidentally to watch his once rival and now friend, Novak Djokovic.

The 43-year-old tennis icon is in London with his wife, Mirka, for the opening of the Rolex flagship store on London’s Old Bond Street. Federer has been associated with the luxury watchmaker since 2001 and owns an impressive collection of Rolexes. The Swiss legend was the recipient of a white gold Daytona after his retirement in 2022.

Federer will also naturally make his way to Centre Court, where he was crowned champion a record eight times. As a reminder, these titles came in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2017. As recently as June, the 20-time Grand Slam champion flagged off the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Swiss great’s presence at SW19 comes soon after a mass exodus of seeds, both from the women’s and men’s draws. The Wimbledon women’s draw includes veterans Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 34, and Laura Siegemund, 37, playing in their second and first Wimbledon quarter-finals, respectively.

Denmark’s Clara Tauson and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, both 22, are playing in the fourth round for the first time. Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Marketa Vondrousova, and Barbora Krejcikova have the misfortune of finding their names on the list of high-profile exits from the opening week of Wimbledon 2025.

The men’s singles draw, too, has witnessed more than a few opening-week upsets take shape. Among them are top-ranked Briton and home hope Jack Draper, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Tommy Paul, Holger Rune, and Lorenzo Musetti.

Quizzed in an interview by former tennis pro, Vijay Amritraj, Federer revealed his picks for taking home the Wimbledon trophy. The Swiss legend nominated top seed Aryna Sabalenka for the women’s singles trophy while backing Carlos Alcaraz to clinch a third straight title among the men, citing the Spaniard’s status as a two-time defending champion giving him the edge.
