Roger Federer never faced Jannik Sinner in an official match.
Swiss Icon Roger Federer has lauded Jannik Sinner by stating that he deserves the World No. 1 ranking.
During a recent interview, 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer stated that Sinner deserves to be the World No. 1 and he’s a great person. Additionally, Federer also affirmed that he follows the Italian.
The eight-time Wimbledon champion also talked about the new generation of Italian tennis players, who have been performing well on the big stage. He took the names of Flavio Cobolli, Luca Nardi, Lorenzo Musetti, Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Arnaldi and Matteo Berrettini.
Federer said, “It’s fantastic that an Italian is No. 1. Sinner deserves it, he’s a great guy, very sweet. I follow him with great interest. Many Italians are emerging: Cobolli, Nardi, Arnaldi, Musetti, Sonego, Berrettini… and I must have forgotten someone.”
Italian tennis players have performed exceptionally well in the last couple of years. At the 2024 French Open, Jannik Sinner reached the semi-finals in the men’s singles event. Apart from that, he’s currently World No. 1 and has won the Australian Open.
Jasmine Paolini reached her first Grand Slam singles final at the 2024 French Open. She also jumped in the rankings to become the new World No. 7. Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli have also reached the final of both Grand Slams in 2024.

Lorenzo Musetti gave tough competition to Novak Djokovic at the French Open and stunned second seed Alex de Minaur in the first round at the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships.
Matteo Berrettini reached the final at the Stuttgart Open last week, where he lost against Jack Draper. As announced earlier, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti will pair up to play doubles in 2024.
