WTA Tokyo Open 2025: Updated schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details

Victoria Mboko to open against fellow Canadian Leylah Fernandez.
After the conclusion of the Ningbo Open, the tennis caravan now moves to Japan for the WTA Tokyo Open 2025, starting on Monday, October 20. Check all the details below.
This time the draw has thrown up the prospect of an intriguing clash, as Canadians Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez are set to square off in the first round. Bianca Andreescu is the third Canadian in the mix after being awarded a wildcard into the main draw at the ATP 500 event.
Fernandez is fresh from winning the WTA 250 event in Osaka and a return to the WTA Top 20. The Canadian overcame Czech teen Tereza Valentova, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3, for her second title of the season.
Top seed Jasmine Paolini is all set to make her debut in Tokyo. She booked passage to the WTA Finals following her semi-final run at Ningbo. Elena Rybakina kept her qualification hopes alive by defeating Paolini in the semi-finals.
A title run for the Kazakh at Ningbo will be half the job done. Rybakina will need to reach the last four in Tokyo to clinch the remaining qualifying position for the WTA Finals.
Mirra Andreeva, the other hopeful, appears to have ended her Asian swing early and is not on the entry list for the Japan Open.
Andreeva’s second-round loss to Chinese wildcard Lin Zhu at Ningbo has placed her qualification bid for Riyadh in jeopardy. Paolini and Rybakina are scheduled to play in Tokyo, where 500 WTA points are up for grabs.
Defending champion Qinwen Zheng will be missing in action as she is nursing an elbow injury that led her to withdraw from Wuhan and Ningbo. Unseeded Chinese player Xinyu Wang and Zheng’s compatriot will be stepping into the World No. 11’s oversized shoes in Tokyo.
Japanese Wakana Sonobe and Moyuka Uchijima, who have been given wildcards, are the homegrown players at the event. Naomi Osaka sustained an injury in her second-round match against Suzan Lamens at the WTA 250 event in neighbouring Osaka and will not be playing in Tokyo.
Osaka is not the only casualty, as Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Emma Raducanu, too, have joined the exodus of high-profile players.
