Novak Djokovic gave his autograph to Zhou Guanyu during ATP Shanghai Masters 2024.

Novak Djokovic has been at the receiving end of utmost love in his return to ATP Shanghai Masters 2024. In a kind hearted gesture, F1 racer Zhou Guanyu met with Djokovic and gifted him a scale replica of his helmet used during the Chinese Grand Prix this year. Guyanyu was seen explaining the special designs added in the helmet which were notable events of his life and landmarks around Shanghai.

The 25-year-old F1 driver pointed out that his childhood memories were also included in the design. He said,’ This was my first time watching the race as a kid and after 20 years, I am back at the track.’ Guanyu signed the helmet as Djokovic termed it as a special gift. In return, the Serbian gave one of his shirts with his autograph as both posed for a picture.

Guanyu wished Djokovic and hoped he would enjoy his time in Shanghai. The last time Djokovic played in Shanghai was in 2019 when Guanyu was still competing in Formula 2 Championships. Coincidentally both athletes have immense admiration for Kobe Bryant. When Guanyu had become the first Chinese F1 driver in 2022, he chose 24 as his permanent racing number as a tribute to Bryant.

Djokovic had also praised the ‘Mamba mentality’ of the late NBA legend. After winning his 24th grand slam at US Open 2023, Djokovic paid a tribute to Bryant with a custom made t-shirt.

This time, Djokovic can break Federer’s record as he has now set up a third round clash against Russian, Roman Safiullin.

The world No #4 has returned to Shanghai after a four year absence. He only dropped three games while defeating Flavio Cobolli in the second round. Djokovic has not conceded a set in the first two matches at Shanghai Masters 2024. He is the most successful player yet in the event with 36 wins and four titles.
