India’s Sumit Nagal has been in sensational form this season.

Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal found himself in a race against time to secure a visa appointment for the upcoming 2024 Wimbledon Championships in England. The 26-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns, urging the British High Commission in India, their Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott, and VFS Global to expedite his visa application process.

In his heartfelt appeal, Nagal expressed his urgent need for a UK visa appointment in New Delhi to represent India at the Wimbledon tournament scheduled for July.

“I’m unable to find any appointments. Could you kindly assist me urgently? Thank you!” he wrote, tagging the relevant authorities.

The tennis star’s plea did not go unnoticed, as Christina Scott, the Deputy High Commissioner, swiftly responded to his request.

Nagal, grateful for the prompt assistance, took to X once again to express his gratitude, stating, “Thank you @CScottFCDO Ma’am, @UKinIndia, and @VFSGlobal for your swift response on my UK visa appointment request. Really appreciate your help!”

Nagal has been in top form in the ongoing ATP campaign as he has accomplished myriad achievements this year. In January, the 26-year-old defeated the likes of Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the first round of the 2024 Australian Open in straight sets (6-4, 6-2, 7-6(5)), becoming the first Indian tennis player to defeat a seeded player in a Grand Slam since Ramesh Krishnan in 1989. However, he lost against China’s Shang Juncheng in the second round.

Last week, he took down the likes of WR 40 Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the first round of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters, becoming the first men’s singles player to win a main draw match at Principality. In the second round, Nagal suffered a defeat against former World No. 7 Holger Rune in a three-set thriller, which was also interrupted by the rain 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

With his stellar performance, he has become the first Indian tennis player in five years to earn a spot in the Main Draw of the prestigious Roland Garros via rankings or direct qualification, after Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019. Sumit Nagal also reached his career-best ranking of 80 recently.
