Andy Murray, or rather Sir Andy is a professional tennis player from Scotland, Born in Glasgow Murray is a three-time Grand Slam winner and a two time Olympic gold medalist. A former World No. 1, he held his position at the top for 41 weeks in 2016. He has also made the distinction of appearing in 11 major finals in his career.

Murray has been the most successful player from Great Britain in recent times. He has played in the finals of all the major Grand Slams. The Scot has two Wimbledon titles and a US Open title to his name. He has been involved in rivalries with the big three in tennis Federer-Nadal and Djokovic. Today we take a sneak-peak into Murray's career and reflect on some of his biggest wins.

5. Andy Murray vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2016 Wimbledon Quarter-final)

The match between Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the 2016 Wimbledon quarter-final was a five-hour-long classic. Murray was looking for his second Wimbledon glory while Tsonga had other plans of his own.

Murray started the rounds in dominant fashion and won the first two sets. The first set victory came through a hard-fought tiebreaker. The third and fourth sets belonged to Tsonga. In the fifth set, Murray made no mistake and clinched the fifth set. Murray hit 13 aces in that round to take a nearly unassailable lead. He went 5-0 up in the process. Ironically the final shot of the match was a 14th Murray ace which brought an end to the 3 hours and 53 minutes long match.

4. Andy Murray vs Fernando Verdasco (2013 Wimbledon Quarter-final)

Andy Murray and Fernando Verdasco met in the quarter-final at Wimbledon in 2013. Murray was the second-ranked player at that time while Verdasco was unseeded. However, that did not stop Verdasco from displaying a beautiful game of tennis.

Verdasco started strongly and took the first two sets. Murray did not crumble against Verdasco's aggressive display and took sets three and four. In the third set, he broke the Spaniard at 5-5 to take the lead. He finally held on to his serve to keep Verdasco at love and make his way to his semi finals for the fifth year in a row. The match finally ended at the three and a half hour-mark. Speaking on the match Murray said, "There's been a lot of matches where I've been behind and managed to turn it around".

This match was important as it had paved the way for Murray's first Wimbledon victory. Murray went on to beat Novak Djokovic in the finals to earn his Wimbledon trophy.

3. Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic (2013 Wimbledon Final)

Andy Murray met Novak Djokovic on the 2013 finals at Wimbledon. It was Murray's first Wimbledon final and also a clash between the no. 1 and no.2 in rankings. Murray had won the US Open just the previous year and was in good form. He had won his semi-final match in sublime fashion after losing the first set in tie-break. Djokovic on the other hand had to play a five-setter against Juan Martin Del Potro.

The match did not take long. After playing for just 3 hours and 9 minutes Murray became the Wimbledon Champion. Murray won the game in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. It made him the first British Wimbledon champion in 77 years. The last British player to come close was Tim Henman who played in the 2002 semi-finals. As soon as Djokovic's shot hit the net in the final rally the stadium had erupted for the hometown hero, thus bringing an end to a long time drought.

2. Andy Murray vs Milos Raonic (2016 Wimbledon Final)

Andy Murray reached his third Wimbledon final in 2016. His opponent was Canada's Milos Raonic. Raonic had defeated the legendary Federer in a 5-set clash to reach his first career final. Moreover, Murray was determined to repeat his 2013 feat at Wimbledon.

He eventually finished Raonic in straight sets 6-4,7-6,7-6 to lift his second Wimbledon trophy. It made him the second British man to win multiple singles titles since Fred Perry. "I'm proud to have my hands on the trophy again," said Murray after his splendid performance.

1. Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic (2012 US Open Final)

The 2012 US Open final witnessed a classic in the men's singles final. The second-seeded Andy Murray clashed against the third seed Novak Djokovic in a near 5-hour marathon. This match tied with the Ivan Lendl and Mats Wilander match of 1988 to become the longest match in US Open final history.

Murray started aggressively and took the first set. The match went to be the longest tiebreak in a championship match history. It went on for 24 minutes with Murray finally getting the upper hand. The first set ended after nearly 87 minutes. Moreover, it had four breaks of serves within the first four games and a 54 shot rally. In fact, the first set tie break also had two 30+ shot rallies.

The Scot held his position and dominance in the second set as well. He coasted to a 4-0 lead but Djokovic fought back and levelled it up at 5-5. Murray then took a lead to make it 6-5 and eventually broke Djoker's serve to take a 2-0 lead. The third and fourth sets was taken by Djokovic.

It all came down to the final to decide the winner of the trophy. The fifth set on the contrary was a short affair. Murray took a considerable lead and held his position to claim the final set. The match ended with a 7-6, 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 result for Murray winning his first Grand Slam title in the process. After his previous four defeats in the finals, Murray was finally able to get his hands on a coveted Grand Slam trophy. Looking back on his victory Murray said, " When I realized I had won, I was a little bit shocked, I was very relieved and I was very emotional".
