The Italian gave a film crew unprecedented access throughout his trip and provided fans a glimpse into his private life.

Jannik Sinner returned to his hometown of Sexten in the Dolomites last week to celebrate his latest achievement of becoming the World No. 1 in the ATP rankings. The Italian gave a film crew unprecedented access throughout his trip.

The 22-year-old gave fans a look at his life growing up in the mountains. “I have my house here and here is the other house with grandma and grandpa. They always cooked for me and then after, I had to wear a ski stuff because I went to skiing immediately from 2 to 4. Then twice and week I was playing tennis and that was it,” Sinner said.

The Italian added, “We played football and we were all the time together with friends and nobody had a phone. We only had a watch and the parents they said, ‘Look, at five you should be at home.’ Sometimes, you arrived at 5:15 and then the parents, they got P***d a little bit!”

Sinner won his first Grand Slam title at the start of the year, the Australian Open, coming from behind to secure a 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Russian Daniil Medvedev. The 22-year-old followed it up with a run to the semi-finals at the recently-concluded French Open, where he was beaten by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.

The Italian has now achieved the feat of becoming the first from his nation to be ranked No. 1 in the ATP rankings. His next big assignment is Wimbledon and then he will return to the clay of Roland-Garros, this time for the Paris Olympics.

In his first match as the new No. 1, Sinner played against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and prevailed after losing the first set in the tiebreak at the Halle Open. In the second round, he got the better of Fabian Marozsan 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. In the quarter-finals, the 22-year-old will face the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jan Lennard-Struff.
