Novak Djokovic made his grand slam debut in 2005 at the Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic achieved a tennis milestone at the US Open 2024, becoming the first man to win at least 90 matches at all four major tournaments. The Serbian tennis star accomplished this feat during his second-round victory over fellow countryman Laslo Djere.

Djokovic defeated Djere in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 2-0. The match lasted two hours and 16 minutes, with Djere retiring due to an abdominal injury.

This win marks Djokovic’s 90th victory at the US Open, completing his collection of 90+ wins at each Grand Slam event. He had previously reached this milestone at the French Open and Wimbledon, and earlier in 2024, he hit the 90-win mark at the Australian Open.

Despite some struggles with his serve, Djokovic maintained control throughout the match. This encounter was a rematch from the previous year when Djere had pushed Djokovic to five sets.

Djokovic, currently ranked world number 2, will face Australian player Alexei Popyrin in the next round. This will be their third meeting in 2024.

Popyrin had taken a set off during the 2024 Australian Open and Wimbledon. He will hope to do the same at Flushing Meadows. Interestingly, the Australian player was Djokovic’s opponent after he recorded 90 wins at the Australian Open and this time it will be at the US Open.

When did Novak Djokovic record his 90th win at French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon?

The 2005 season saw Djokovic making his debut at all the four grand slams. He recorded his 90th win at the French Open in 2023 when he defeated Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals. It was the first grand slam where he had secured 90 wins. A month later, he defeated Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and recorded 90 wins at London.

Meanwhile, he overcame Serbian Dino Prizmic in four sets in the opening round of Australian Open 2024 to secure his 90th win at the major. The 37-year-old will look forward to creating more milestones at the ongoing US Open 2024. He is aiming to win his first major of the season and a historic 25th grand slam of his career.
