Daniil Medvedev and Iga Swiatek are the only former US Open champions remaining in the Grand Slam.

The US Open 2024 has been a shocker for tennis enthusiasts. Both defending singles champions are out of the Grand Slam, and it is most likely that Flushing Meadows will see a new champion emerge in the ongoing edition. Interestingly, Daniil Medvedev and Iga Swiatek are the only former US Open champions remaining in the Grand Slam.

Thus, without further ado, let’s take a look at the quarter-final fixtures on Day 10 of US Open 2024:

US Open 2024 Day 10 (September 4) Predictions

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Karolina Muchova — Women’s Singles Quarterfinals

Karolina Muchova has finally picked up the brilliant form she has the calibre of. The Czech tennis star is yet to drop a set at Flushing Meadows as she had taken down the likes of Jasmine Paolini and Naomi Osaka. The former World No. #8 reached the semifinals at the US Open last year, where she lost to eventual winner Coco Gauff.

However, the defending champion is already out of the race and Muchova is up against Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil. Meanwhile, Maia has got past Anna Kalinskaya and Caroline Wozniacki in recent rounds to reach the quarterfinals. The two tennis stars have faced each other thrice on the tour and Muchova has a 100% winning rate.

They last locked horns in the first round of the 2023 Cincinnati Masters, where they played a three-setter. It seems like Karolina Muchova will retain her perfect record against Beatriz Haddad Maia at the US Open.

Prediction: Karolína Muchová to win in three sets.

Iga Swiatek vs Jessica Pegula — Women’s Singles Quarterfinals

Jessica Pegula gave a stellar performance in the Canadian Cincinnati double. She won the Canadian Open and finished as a runner-up in Cincinnati after losing to Aryna Sabalenka. Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek missed the Canadian Open and lost to Sabalenka in the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters.

The two have faced each other nine times on the tour, and Swiatek has won six of their meetings. They last faced each other during the 2023 WTA Finals, where the Pole won 6-1, 6-0. Interestingly, both tennis stars haven’t dropped a single set in their whole campaign at Flushing Meadows this season.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in two sets.

Alex de Minaur vs Jack Draper — Men’s Singles Quarterfinals

After injury struggles, Alex de Minaur has made a remarkable comeback at Flushing Meadows. The Aussie has recorded resounding victories over Marcos Giron, Otto Virtanen, Daniel Evans, and countryman Jordan Thompson to enter the quarterfinals, where he’s up against Jack Draper. Meanwhile, Draper’s path to the last eight has been interesting.

He defeated China’s Zhang Zhizhang 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 in the first match. Later, he defeated the likes of Facundo Díaz Acosta and Botic van de Zandschulp, who defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, comfortably. His match with Tomas Machac, a tennis star with a high work rate, was expected to be a spectacle, but it also ended as a one-sided affair.

And now, the Brit is set to face 10th seed Alex de Minaur of Australia in the quarterfinals of US Open 2024. Interestingly, it’s the first time Draper has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam.

Prediction: Jack Draper to win in four sets.

Daniil Medvedev vs Jannik Sinner

A new chapter will be added to the rivalry of Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner as the two face each other in the quarterfinals of US Open 2024. They recently locked horns in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2024 Championships. At the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the 23-year-old was the favourite to defeat Medvedev. However, the Russian completed the redemption of his loss against Sinner in the Australian Open final.

However, a lot of things have changed since the grass-court Grand Slam. The likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are out of the tournament.

On the other side, Sinner and Medvedev were seen as the hot favourites to win US Open 2024 title. However, their meet in the quarterfinals leaves a wide room open for a surprise winner in New York. Daniil Medvedev leads Jannik Sinner 7-5 in their head-to-head record.

Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in five sets.
