If he does participate, it will be the first time since 2022 that Rafael Nadal will play the US Open.

Four-time US Open champion Rafael Nadal is on the entry list for the season’s last Grand Slam US Open 2024 with a protected ranking of No. #9. The 38-year-old has missed three of the last four editions of the US Open. At his previous appearance in 2022, the Spaniard lost in the fourth round to Frances Tiafoe. Nadal’s four US Open titles came in 2010, 2013, 2017, and 2019.

While Nadal has his name on the entry list released on Tuesday (June 16), the Spaniard is yet to confirm his availability for the event. He has been dealing with injuries since the start of the 2023 season.

The former World No. #1 is currently playing the Nordea Open in Sweden, his first tournament in 45 days. He won his opening doubles match alongside Casper Rudd on Monday, then defeated Leo Borg, son of Bjorn Borg, in singles on Tuesday. Nadal’s second-round opponent is British fifth seed Cameron Norrie. The Briton moved into the second round with a straight-set win over unseeded Slovakian Jozef Kovalik.

The entry lists for the women’s and men’s singles are headlined by the two No. 1s, Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic are the defending champions and head to New York with a World No. #2 ranking.

Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam winner, is scheduled to compete at the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, where the tennis competition will begin from July 27 at Roland Garros, the French Open venue. Nadal has two gold medals at the showpiece event – in singles at Beijing 2008 and doubles at Rio 2016.
