Washington Open 2025: Updated schedule, fixtures, results & live streaming details

Defending champions Paula Badosa and Seb Korda have pulled out of Washington Open 2025 due to injury.

Persistent injuries have robbed the Washington Open of its defending champions. Paula Badosa is out of contention due to a low back injury while Sebastian Korda is recovering from a stress fracture that led to the American skipping Wimbledon as well.

The 25-year-old Korda had the honour of becoming the first American to win in Washington since Andy Roddick in 2007. He had defeated Italian Flavio Cobolli 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 for the 2024 title.

The Washington Open, the only combined ATP-WTA 500-level event on the tennis calendar, will still have plenty of familiar faces turning up to play. Top-ranked American Taylor Fritz is joined by fellow Americans Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, and Alex Michelsen, among others. Shelton will be teaming up with DC native Frances Tiafoe in the men’s doubles draw.

Wimbledon 2025 semi-finalist Fritz is a strong contender to win on home turf and keep the trophy at home for another season. Ben Shelton made the semi-finals at the DC Open last season.

Roland Garros semi-finalist Lorenzo Musetti will look to bounce back after a disappointing Wimbledon campaign that saw him make a first-round exit from the grass-court major. The evergreen Gael Monfils and the 2016 DC champion are also among the entry lineup.

Jessica Pegula (winner in 2019), Emma Navarro, Sofia Kenin, and Venus Williams (wildcard) are the American WTA players who will be joining their colleagues from the ATP at their home event.

Elena Rybakina is another prominent name to feature in the tournament. Pegula is the top seed in the women’s singles draw at her home event, while fellow American Fritz headlines the men’s singles draw.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will likely return to action at the Cincinnati Open WTA 1000 in August, citing fatigue as a reason for skipping the hard-court events in Washington and Montreal. She made the last four at Wimbledon, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova in three sets.

The Indian-Kiwi duo of Yuki Bhambri and Michael Venus are seeded fourth in the doubles draw and could run into top seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the last four. The all-American duo of Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe, though unseeded, can be banked on to liven up the proceedings in the doubles draw.
