The upcoming second-round face-off marks the third tour-level meeting between the two, with their head-to-head currently at 1-1. Popyrin claimed victory to take the lead at the 2021 Madrid Open. Sinner made amends to equalise in 2025 at Flushing Meadows.
It will be a battle between Sinner’s all-court game against Popyrin’s powerful serve. Popyrin will be facing a title contender for a place in the third round when he faces the Italian on Wednesday.
Sinner was a fresh face on the ATP Tour as a 19-year-old in 2021 when he lost to the Australian in Madrid.
