The much-anticipated Australian Open 2026 third-round clash between Novak Djokovic and Botic van de Zandschulp will be held on January 24, Saturday, at the Rod Laver Arena.
The 10-time Australian Open champion Djokovic is only one win away from securing 400th singles win in his Grand Slam career and the Serbian has been in outstanding form as of late.
He has not lost a single set and dropped only 14 games so far in the tournament claiming two straght-set wins. He defeated Pedro MartĂnez of Spain in the opening match 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to complete his 100th win at the Melbourne Park and then sealed a similar 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win over Francesco Maestrelli in second round.
Speaking of his opponent, Botic van de Zandschulp, he is no ordinary. The 30-year-old Dutch tennis star is the one who cut short Djokovicâs campaign in Indian Wells Open 2025 thrashing him in the second round with the score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
Zandschulp is once again in the beast mode. He opened the campaign against Brandon Nakashima and snatched a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-3) victory in a four set thriller. In the second round against Shang Juncheng, the Dutch emerged victorous by 7-6 (8-6), 6-2, 6-3.
He is also competing in doubles with partner Tallon Griekspoor and advanced to the third round in that event as well.
Both Djokovic and Zandschulp have met only twice in their career. First, at the Astana Open 2022 when the in-form Serbian grabbed a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win and second time in California where the Dutch won. Now, here in Australia, it promises to be a battle of supremacy.
