The Spaniard will completely miss the 2026 grass court season.
Carlos Alcaraz’s injury-related woes continues, with the Spaniard now set to miss the 2025 grass court swing. Alcaraz, 23, has been sidelined from competitive tennis since picking up a wrist injury at the Barcelona Open earlier this year.
The World No. 2 had to withdraw from the French Open, where he is the two-time defending champion. Alcaraz will now also be sidelined from Queen’s and Wimbledon.
Alcaraz won his first Australian Open title at the beginning of the season and became the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.
He is a two-time champion at both Queen’s and Wimbledon. The Spaniard was dethroned as SW16 champion by Jannik Sinner in the 2025 finals.
The wrist injury, which he picked up in April, allowed chief rival Sinner to close the gap and take over as World No. 1 following the Monte-Carlo Open.
The duo contested the final, and the title run was one of three stitched together by Sinner, including Masters events in Madrid and Rome.
Alcaraz will yield more ground to Sinner, with the Italian winning the past six Masters 1,000 tournaments, including five this season.
With the World No. 2 absent from SW19, Sinner’s chances of retaining his 2025 Wimbledon crown receive a boost. The Italian overcame Alcaraz in the 2025 finals for his maiden Wimbledon title.
Alcaraz’s absence from two straight Grand Slam events will be a setback to fans and the organisers alike. However, this boosts Sinner’s chances of bagging the Roland Garros trophy and completing the career Grand Slam.
The 2026 French Open does mark the return of Novak Djokovic to the Grand Slam stage. The Serbian has won three titles on the clay courts of Roland Garros and remains on the hunt for a record 25th Grand Slam title.
Will Carlos Alcaraz play the 2026 French Open?
No, Alcaraz has officially withdrawn from Roland Garros due to a right wrist injury.
Will Carlos Alcaraz participate at Wimbledon 2026?
Alcaraz has also confirmed that although his recovery is progressing, he is still not ready to return to competitive action and will therefore skip both the Queen’s Club and Wimbledon Championships.
What did Carlos Alcaraz say in his statement?
My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible!
