Andy Murray will still play the mixed doubles event alongside Emma Raducanu at the 2024 Wimbledon.
On Thursday, the Wimbledon Championships organized a farewell ceremony for Andy Murray, who’s playing his last campaign at the grass court major.
The likes of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Holger Rune, Jack Draper and several other tennis stars attended the ceremony on Centre Court. The audience gave the Scotsman a lovely standing ovation, while a video of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Federer and Venus Williams was also displayed by the Championships in Murray’s tribute.
After the ceremony, an emotional Andy Murray gave a speech where he addressed several aspects of his professional career. During his speech at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Murray also talked about his wife Kim Sears.
He stated that they met for the first time at the young age of 18. Murray revealed that Sears’ father was a tennis coach and they met in New York before the 2005 US Open.
Murray said, “We met the first time at age 18. Kim’s dad is a tennis coach. We met in New York. We went for dinner at the US Open. I choked a bit the first time we went out. I walked her home to her hotel. I asked her for her email address. I don’t think that’s a normal thing to do.”
The three-time Grand Slam champion also stated that she came to watch his first match at the US Open, where he faced Andrei Pavel. Interestingly, the Scotsman even revealed that he vomited twice during the match, but Sears still stood by him. At that time, he understood that she was the one.
Murray further added, “She came to watch my first match live at the US Open. I vomited twice in that match. I then stood up and vomited on my opponent’s racquet bag. She still seemed to like me. I knew she was a keeper after that. She’s been an amazing support to me and my whole family. She’s the best mom.”
Andy Murray also jokingly said that after retirement, she will have to see him every day, which could be problematic for the couple. The two-time Wimbledon champion also stated that he wants to spend his whole life alongside Kim Sears.
The 37-year-old concluded, “Unfortunately in a few months she’s going to have to see me every day. So, things might be rocky for a little while. Hopefully, we can stick it out together. I’m looking forward to the rest of our lives together.”
Andy Murray tied the knot with Kim Sears on April 11, 2015, at the Dunblane Cathedral in his hometown. Moreover, the reception for his wedding took place at the Cromlix House Hotel. The Scotsman has four children.
