Hello and welcome to Khel Now’s live blog for the Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini match at Wimbledon 2024 final. Please wait for the blog to load.

A new women’s singles champion will be crowned at Wimbledon 2024 when two first-time finalists take centre stage on Saturday. The No. #7 seed Jasmine Paolini came from a set down to defeat Croatian Donna Vekic 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(8). By clocking 2 hours and 51 minutes, the Vekic-Paolini match eclipsed the 2009 Wimbledon semi-final between Serena Williams and Elena Dementieva, which took 2 hours and 49 minutes to complete.

Paolini withstood 42 winners from the Vekic, denying the Croatian her maiden final appearance. Wimbledon 2024 is the first time Vekic made it past the round of 16. Paolini, the 2024 Roland Garros runner-up, powered to her third win in four meetings against Vekic. The Italian is also into her second Grand Slam final of the season.

Paolini, the first Italian woman to reach the final at SW19 in the Open Era, meets Czech Barbora Krejcikova in the title round.

On July 10, Barbora Krejcikova became the seventh player from her country to reach the semifinals. Now, Krejcikova is back in the finals of a Grand Slam three years after her 2021 title run at Roland Garros.

No. #31 seed Krejcikova clinched her spot in the championship match on Saturday with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback over No. #4 seed Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion.

Krejcikova dashed fourth-seed 2022 champion Elena Rybakina’s hopes of a second Wimbledon title with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in 2 hours and 7 minutes. Rybakina came into the match with a 19-2 (90.5%) win rate in the Wimbledon draw before Thursday.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini preview

Jasmine Paolini had never passed the first round at Wimbledon prior to this edition and now plays for the biggest triumph of her career. The 28-year-old Italian is the first player to make the finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year since Serena Williams’s efforts in 2016.

Paolini ended Emma Navarro’s stay in London after the American defeated Coco Gauff in the fourth round, and a win over another first-time SW19 semifinalist, Donna Vekic, has brought her close to her first Grand Slam trophy. Irrespective of the result in the upcoming final, Paolini will make her top five debut in the coming week. She reached a career-high ranking of No. #7 a month ago.

Barbora Krejcikova is also poised for a rise in rankings. She should find herself among the Top 15 in the week after Wimbledon. The No. 31 seed sent home in-form players Danielle Collins in the fourth round and Jelena Ostapenko in the last eight. Krejcikova scored one of the tournament’s biggest upsets, defeating World No. #4 Elena Rybakina in the last four.

Now she has an opportunity to ensure a Czech retains ownership of the Venus Rosewater dish following Marketa Vondrousova’s win last season. In the third round, Krejcikova got the better of Vondrousova’s conqueror, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Jasmine Paolini prediction

It has been an unexpected two weeks at Wimbledon 2024, with all possible favourites falling by the wayside. Instead, we have the two most unlikely contestants facing each other for the most prestigious trophy in tennis – Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. Elena Rybakina, the last of the Grand Slam winners in the event, bowed out in the last four against Krejcikova.

Jasmine Paolini is 8-1 on grass, with her only loss coming to Daria Kasatkina at the Rothesay International semifinals in Eastbourne a fortnight ago. Paolini pulled off a great escape against an inspired Donna Vekic after coming within two points of making a semi-final exit in the final set tiebreak.

Krejcikova, a former Roland Garros champion, is the player with more experience and will not be easily intimidated by Paolini. The Czech’s grass-court preparation may be lacking following her early exits at Birmingham and Eastbourne before arriving in Wimbledon.

However, Krejcikoca is the more experienced player at the grass-court major, having a 11-3 record at the venue. Paolini was 0-3 in the main draw at Wimbledon before this season. It will be a battle between two defensive players unafraid to approach the net.

The Italian, having made her first Grand Slam final, has everything to play for, yet Krejcikova’s crafty ways on the court would give her the edge as she goes up against her second top-10 player in two days.

Result: Barbora Krejcikova to win in three sets.
