Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest male tennis player to complete a surface slam last month after he won the 2024 French Open.

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that he was shaking before he faced Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

Last year, Alcaraz stunned Serbian tennis star in a five-set marathon to win his maiden Wimbledon title. The Spaniard has started his title defense in London, and during a recent interview, he talked about his Grand Slam success.

Talking about his Wimbledon success last season, Alcaraz revealed that he was shaking before facing Djokovic. The Spaniard revealed that his whole body was shaking; however, he motivated himself by affirming that it was a now-or-never situation.

The 21-year-old said, “In the final game at Roland Garros [the French Open] this month, I was shaking. The same is true at the Wimbledon final last year. My legs, my hands. It is a difficult moment and you have to trust yourself. Everything I think in that moment is: ‘Go for it. If you miss it, you miss it. Don’t hold back. Don’t regret. Play positive. Go aggressively. Play your game.’ It’s OK to miss that happens.”

Carlos Alcaraz also stated that 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer also faced the same thing when he faced Djokovic in the final of the 2019 Wimbledon. He stated that top players also feel stress and pressure in different situations.

The three-time Grand Slam champion also stated that losing was also an important part of his thrive. He said that the matches he lost in 2022 helped him learn a lot. He added, “It has even happened to Federer who was 40-15 on service in the fifth set and lost against Djokovic in the epic 2019 Wimbledon final]. Top players in every sport have lost in important moments.

Alcaraz further added, “But if you try and you miss, you are going to learn from it. If I hadn’t lost the matches I lost in 2022, I would never have achieved what I achieved. I learnt from every defeat. You have to learn from moments you the live.”

Carlos Alcaraz failed to defend his title at the Queen’s Club Championships, last month. He was eliminated in the second round by Great Britain’s Jack Draper. However, he’ll play his opening match at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships against Estonia’s Mark Lajal.
