Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion showcased incredible resilience and tenacity in his Wimbledon 2024 third-round match against Frances Tiafoe. The third seed was given a tough fight by the American who seemed relentless but unfortunately couldn’t close out the match paving the way due to tiredness and fatigue, which was taken full toll of by Alcaraz.

On the back of a stunning comeback, the third seeded Alcaraz will now take on the 16th seed Humbert in the fourth round. As one of the in-form players coming into the season having won 29 from 35 matches, he heads into this clash as a clear favourite.
His first two rounds were a mere warm-up for him as his opponents proved to be no match for them, defeating both in straight sets. Up against him is the 26-year-old Frenchman Ugo Humbert who has reached the fourth round in Wimbledon only once back in 2019 after defeating 16th seed Gael Monfils and 19th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, only to fall to eventual Champion Novak Djokovic.
Going by the Frenchman’s recent form, he has garnered 24 wins from 37 matches, including title triumphs in the Open 13 Provenance and the Dubai Tennis Championship. He also reached semifinals of the Libema Open. He defeated Nakashima in the third round in four sets including three tie breakers.

Prediction
Given the third seed’s form, coming into the fourth round on the back of a staggering comeback win over Tiafoe, one feels he is back to his best. It was this very month a year back when Alcaraz beat Djokovic to end the Serb’s run and win his first ever Wimbledon title. At his absolute best, the Spaniard can beat anyone.
Contrastingly, the 16th seeded Humbert has huffed and puffed his way through and now faces his biggest challenge of the Tournament. What may come to Humbert’s advantage is the fact that Alcaraz has never played him before. This lack of direct experience means Alcaraz won’t have prior tactical insights specific to Humbert’s game, potentially giving Humbert an element of surprise.
However, given the talented Spaniard’s ability to adapt quickly and adjust his strategies during matches, it is fair to say that a steep challenge lies ahead for the 26-year-old Frenchman.
Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
