Elena Rybakina enters the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third consecutive year.

Fourth seed Elena Rybakina will take on Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina for a place in the semifinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

Rybakina has only dropped one set in her journey to the last eight. In the fourth round, her opponent, Anna Kalinskaya, withdrew due to a wrist injury halfway into the second set, allowing Rybakina to easily advance to the quarterfinals.

Before Kalinskaya withdrew, Rybakina was in full swing. The women’s singles draw has been more open than expected after Aryna Sabalenka withdrew due to injury on the eve of the event and Rybakina is now the favorite to win ever since the exit of the top two seeds Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff.

Elena Rybakina vs Elina Svitolina preview

The last edition of Wimbledon witnessed an unseeded player, Marketa Vondrousova winning the prestigious Championships. Adding a twist to the story, the defending champion was knocked out in the first round this year. Additionally, the first and second-seeded players were ousted in the third and fourth rounds respectively.

If still there is one woman who can claim to be a favorite, then it is 2022 Wimbledon Champion Elena Rybakina. She has won 18 of her first 20 matches at Wimbledon, a 90% ratio that has only been attained by Steffi Graf and Ann Jones in the Open era.

How she has dominated opponents like the former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki by losing just one game speaks volumes about the form she is in.

The Kazakh star will face a resilient Svitolina whose results mean a lot to her country Ukraine. She has been vocal about the happenings and has spoken out loud with her on-field performances as well. The game will be a treat to watch for the fans.

Head-to-head record

Matches: 4

Elena Rybakina: 2

Elina Svitolina: 2

Both players share two wins a piece from their battles. In their four previous meetings, Rybakina and Svitolina have split the two victories; however, Rybakina has triumphed twice in straight sets, including the most recent match at Roland Garros. Svitolina is probably going to have the support of the audience, but Rybakina is aware that it will be difficult.

Prediction

Currently ranked among the world’s top five players, Rybakina could strengthen her hold in the rankings with a victory in the quarterfinals. The 25-year-old has been in good form since the start of the season by winning titles at Stuttgart, Abu Dhabi and Brisbane.

However, she has also lost in the final of the Qatar Open against Iga Swiatek and also suffered a loss against Danielle Collins in Miami. But Rybakina is up against an emotionally ridden Elina Svitolina.

The 29-year-old sobbed during an on-court interview after defeating Wang Xinyu of China to go to the quarterfinals. She knew there had been many losses from the attack on her country, so she played the match with a black ribbon on her white attire.

With every win giving a great amount of joy, this could be proved to be the ultimate motivation for any sportswoman. Svitolina hasn’t had a great 2024 on the court as well with a runner-up finish in Auckland being her best. She needs to improve her attack to stop the rampaging Rybakina, which looks unlikely on Wednesday.

Prediction: Rybakina to win in three sets
