Caroline Wozniacki claws back from the edge to move into the third round.

As the sun set on day four of Wimbledon, a former World No. 1, Caroline Wozniacki, pulled off a great escape against No. 30 seed Laylah Fernandez. The Dane staved off two match points en route to a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Fernandez.

Wozniacki prevailed after two hours and 19 minutes on court to make the third round. Unseeded at this year’s Wimbledon, the 2018 Australian Open champion is playing her first main draw at the grass-court event since 2019. The error-prone Canadian lost the match despite her 45 winners after making an equal number of unforced errors.

Wozniacki’s next opponent is 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. Fourth seed Rybakina needed three sets and a two-hour, 12-minute stay on Court 2 to get the better of German veteran Laura Siegemund, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in their second-round showdown. Rybakina’s strong serve and 29 winners were sufficient to overwhelm Siegemund, despite the Kazakh making 46 unforced errors in the game.

Elena Rybakina vs Caroline Wozniacki Preview

Caroline Wozniacki and Elena Rybakina have a Grand Slam title each to their name. A win in the 2024 edition of the Championships will bestow upon Wozniacki the record of being one of the oldest women to win the singles title.

Martina Navratilova, at 33 years and 8 months, is the oldest SW19 champion and owns nine Wimbledon titles. If Rybakina wins, she will become the first two-time Wimbledon champion of this decade and emulate Serena Williams. The younger Williams won the trophy back-to-back in 2015 and 2016.

Rybakina and Wozniacki have a difficult path ahead in their quest to the title round. Possible fourth-round opponents awaiting them are either Berlin Ladies Open finalist and 17th seed Anna Kalinskaya or 15th seed Liudmila Samsonova. A round-of-eight clash with two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur and a semifinal clash with top seed Iga Swiatek are likely possibilities.

Where and how to watch the live streaming and TV broadcast of the Wimbledon third round between Elena Rybakina and Caroline Wozniacki in India?

Disney+ Hotstar will take charge of streaming duties for the third-round match of the grass-court major between Elena Rybakina vs Caroline Wozniacki in India. Star India is the mainstream broadcaster for Wimbledon 2024.

Prediction

Caroline Wozniacki is on her comeback trail after stepping away from the game in 2020 when she officially retired. Wozniacki picked up the racquet again in August 2023, reaching the fourth round at the US Open in a dream run.

Wozniacki will be on the back foot in her match against Rybakina. She has never gotten past the fourth round at the grass-court Major, and her opponent is a winner at Wimbledon, who made the quarterfinals last year with a shoulder issue. The Dane has half-a-dozen appearances in the round of 16 to show for her troubles.

Emphasising Rybakina’s advantage in the tournament is her win-loss record of 37-7 this season against Wozniacki’s 11-9. The Kazakh has won three tour-level titles in 2024, while Wozniacki’s last title was at the 2018 Australian Open two years before her temporary retirement.

Unfortunately for the Dane, she has ended up in Rybakina’s crosshairs when the World No. 4 is enjoying one of her best years on tour. Even though the Kazakh is battling health woes that led to withdrawals from Dubai, and Rome, and following them was a surprise loss to Jasmine Paolini in the French Open quarterfinals, she is more than equipped to take the Wozniacki challenge head-on.

Prediction: Elena Rybakina to win in three sets.
