Top seed Iga Swiatek clinched a comfortable second-round victory over Petra Martic.
After her win against Petra Martic on Thursday, Iga Swiatek became the first player to win more than 20 consecutive matches as the World No. 1 since Serena Williams between the 2014 WTA Finals and the 2015 Madrid Open. She has now extended her winning streak to 21 matches in a row.
It was a flawless performance in the second round by the four-time Grand Slam champion, as she had more winners than unforced errors, 25 to 19, and held all 10 of her service games. Despite her long run at the top of the women’s WTA rankings, Swaitek has a rather disappointing record on grass, with 4 out of her 5 Grand Slam trophies coming on clay.
With two of her biggest threats out of the way, Aryna Sabalenka (ruled out due to an injured shoulder) and Naomi Osaka (lost comprehensively in round 2), the World No. 1 will feel this is her best chance to secure her maiden Wimbledon trophy.

Iga Swiatek vs Yulia Putintseva Preview
Yulia Putintseva knocked out 26th seed Katerina Siniaková to advance to her career’s first-ever third round at Wimbledon. The Kazakh has had a promising year so far, winning 28 out of the 43 matches she has played. She won the Birmingham Classic and reached the quarterfinals in Madrid and Miami.
However, she will face the title favorite, Iga Swiatek, who’s in red-hot form. Nevertheless, the fact that Swiatek has never gone past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon should give the unseeded 29-year-old some hope of producing an upset on the iconic Centre Court.
The World No. 1 recognizes the importance of not taking her initial rounds lightly, as she said after her second-round victory, “It’s not like I’m going in the first rounds of Grand Slams knowing that I should win or I should take it for granted. I’m ready to battle even in the first rounds.”
Head-to-head records
Matches: 4
Iga Swiatek: 4
Yulia Putintseva: 0
Iga Swiatek will look to make it 5 in 5 against the Kazakh. The Polish tennis star dominated Putintseva in their last encounter, taking place at the 2024 Italian Open, in which the 23-year-old brushed aside her opponent in straight sets.
Where and how to watch the live streaming and TV broadcast of the Wimbledon third round between Iga Swiatek and Yulia Putintseva in India?
Star Sports serves as the primary broadcaster in India, with Disney+ Hotstar as the official streaming service. Indian viewers can watch the Wimbledon third-round match between Iga Swiatek and Yulia Putintseva through these two providers.
Prediction
Iga Swiatek has had a largely untroubled journey so far but one expects this third round to be a challenging contest for the Top Seed. Her track record suggests that it has often been the case that, despite being in good form, she crashes out of Wimbledon in the third round or the quarterfinals.
In 2023, she lost to wildcard Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, while in 2022, Swiatek’s campaign ended against unseeded Alizé Cornet in the third round.
Given the Kazakh’s on-court intensity and defense, along with her track record on grass, she could prove to be a tough challenge for the WTA World No. 1.
Hence, despite going into the match as a clear favorite, by no means will this be a straightforward clash, as the Polish tennis star needs to come good if she wants to keep her hopes of winning her first-ever Wimbledon trophy alive.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets
