Novak Djokovic leads Holger Rune 4-2 in their head-to-head record.

Danish tennis star Holger Rune recently took to social media and sent a message to Novak Djokovic following his elimination from the 2024 Wimbledon.

Holger Rune faced Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Rune, who was enjoying a decent campaign at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in the initial matches, suffered a straight-set 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 loss against the former ATP World No. 1.

After the match, he took to social media and wrote that he felt like a shadow against the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Rune wrote, ā€œToday I felt like a shadow and @DjokerNole my friend, still going strong, see you next year @Wimbledon. Love this place.ā€

The 21-year-old started his 2024 Wimbledon campaign against South Koreaā€™s Kwon Soon-Woo. In the second match, he took down Brazilā€™s Thiago Seyboth Wild in four sets before he defeated Frenchman Quentin Halys in the third round.

Last year, he reached the quarterfinals of the Championships, where he lost against eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. Rune has significantly dropped in the ATP rankings, as heā€™s currently World No. 1. Heā€™s yet to win a title this year, and he has a win-loss record of 22-13.

Rune reached the final of the Brisbane International in January, where he lost against Grigor Dimitrov. Since then, his struggles on the tour have continued. His Australian Open campaign was halted in the second round. In addition to that, Rune lost to Alexander Zverev in the fourth round of the 2024 French Open.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic will face Australiaā€™s Alex de Minaur in the next round. Minaur has recorded wins over the likes of James Duckworth, Jaume Munar, Lucus Pouille and Arthur Fils. Additionally, the Australian tennis star would be playing his first Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Novak Djokovic, who returned to the Wimbledon Championships after a right knee meniscus tear surgery, has displayed quality tennis in the grass-court Grand Slam. After defeating Vit Kopriva in the first round, he recorded a responding win over Home Hope Jacob Fearnley in the second round. Moreover, with wins over Alexei Popyrin and Holger Rune, he has secured a spot in the quarter-finals.
