Novak Djokovic books a last-eight match against first-time quarterfinalist Alex de Minaur.
Novak Djokovic got the better of Holger Rune on Monday, bringing up his 60th Grand Slam quarter-final appearance. The Serb’s 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 dismissal of Rune in a little over two hours earned the former World No. 1 a place in the last eight at Wimbledon for the 15th time.
Djokovic is second on the all-time list of players with the most quarterfinal appearances at SW19. The seven-time Wimbledon champion trails Roger Federer, who is on eighteen. Rune is known to be a tricky customer and has pushed Djokovic to the limit in the past.
But in their fourth-round match, the Dane could only look on as Djokovic took charge of the tempo and the outcome to ensure his fourth win in six meetings against Rune. It was also the second seed’s third straight win against Holger Rune, going back to the ATP Masters event in Paris last year.
Djokovic drew first blood, racing to a 3-0 lead in the opening set. The Serbian dominated with his serve, winning 75% of his first serve and 72% of his second serve. Novak Djokovic faces Alex de Minaur on Wednesday after the No. 9 seed made the quarterfinals for the first time in his sixth main draw at Wimbledon.
The Australian’s previous best result was reaching the round of 16 in 2022. The 25-year-old from Sydney downed Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. on No. 1 Court to draw level at 1-1 against Fils.
Minaur won 70% of the net points while converting nine breakpoint opportunities. He also won 72% of first-serve points. Alex de Minaur squandered a 4-2 lead in the third set before wrapping up the match in four sets, avenging his defeat in Barcelona to the Frenchman earlier this year.

Novak Djokovic vs Alex de Minaur Preview
Alex de Minaur is in his second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal, having reached the last eight at Roland Garros in May. The World No. 9 also won the Libema Open in early June with a straight-set win over Sebastian Korda.
Meanwhile, the Serbian’s best result at a Grand Slam this season is reaching the last four at the season-opening major, the Australian Open. Four of the top five seeds have made it to the last eight. The exception is Alexander Zverev, who lost to American Taylor Fritz in a marathon fourth-round five-setter that included two tiebreaks in the second and fourth sets.
Fritz is joined by fellow American Tommy Paul, who is making his quarterfinal debut at Wimbledon. Paul will play against defending champ Carlos Alcaraz, while Fritz will go up against Italian Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti is one of two Italians left in the draw, with the other being top seed Jannik Sinner.

The Djokovic and Minaur rivalry is three matches old and is one where the Serbian is in the lead. Their most recent face-off was in the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo in April. Djokovic was victorious on that occasion, winning 7-5, 6-4.

Prediction
Novak Djokovic appears to have a new lease of life after his unexpected French Open withdrawal. The second seed completed all his matches in four sets or less, including convincing wins against de Minaur’s countryman Alexei Popyrin and Denmark’s Holger Rune.
Despite undergoing knee surgery only three weeks before Wimbledon, he has embraced winning ways once again. Another title will see him equal the eight Wimbledon titles won by Roger Federer.
Minaur, too, has been impressive in the first week, not dropping a set until the fourth round. In the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time, he has moved a step closer to becoming the first Australian champion at Wimbledon since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002.
Skipping all grass court warm-up events, Wimbledon 2024 is Djokovic’s first tournament on grass in 2024. Despite having a forgettable tennis season, the Serbian is still a force to be reckoned with and has a 96-11 win-loss record at Wimbledon. Alex de Minaur is just getting started on his Wimbledon journey and is 11-5 at the venue.
Djokovic is 13-1 in major events this year, while de Minaur stands at 11-2. Djokovic’s record on grass, not including the ongoing Wimbledon tournament, is 115–19 (85.8%), while Alex de Minaur is 29–17 (63%) on grass.
