Germany’s Angelique Kerber won the Wimbledon Championships in 2018.
The initial wildcard list for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships has been announced. Only British tennis players have been named in the men’s singles event. However, the likes of Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki have secured a spot in the women’s singles event through wildcards.
Former British No. #1 Emma Raducanu has also secured a wildcard for the upcoming Wimbledon. The 21-year-old is one of the four Grand Slam champions in the women’s singles category. Raducanu would be looking forward to returning to the Grand Slam with full strength, after missing the tournament last season due to surgery.
She underwent three surgical procedures last season. Apart from Raducanu, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka has also been named in the wildcards for the women’s singles event. Former Wimbledon champion and World No. #1 Angelique Kerber will also be in action at the grass court Grand Slam.
Additionally, 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki has also earned a wildcard for the event. All the WTA stars have returned to tennis after giving birth. The other wildcard spots have been awarded to Heather Watson, Fran Jones and Lily Miyazaki in the ladies’ singles.
