Coco Gauff might have to overcome both Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek to lift her maiden Wimbledon title.

It’s summer time in London and the attention will be on the Southwest area where every tennis fan will suit up to watch Wimbledon 2024. The Grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club will witness tennis stars battling it out for the coveted title. The Women’s Singles Championship will see 128 Ladies vying for the Silver Salver Shield.

The 2023 edition saw Marketa Vondrousova create history when she became the first unseeded player to lift the cup. It will be interesting to see how the 2024 event unfolds. It will also be the first edition since 1996 featuring neither of the Williams sisters. But the USA’s charge will be led by Coco Gauff who has been seeded second for the Championships.

However, winning the title at Wimbledon 2024 won’t be easy, as multiple contenders will be vying for the trophy. Let’s look into Coco Gauff’s potential opponents on her path to lifting the title at SW19.

First Round: Caroline Dolehide

It will be an all-American affair in the first round with Caroline Dolehide being Gauff’s opponent. Dolehide’s singles career hasn’t had a great take-off much like her doubles career. While she has reached the six semifinals in grand slam events in doubles, she hasn’t gone past the second round in singles.

In fact, her last exit came in the hands of Coco Gauff at the Australian Open earlier this year. The result could very well repeat in Wimbledon as well.

Second Round: Anca Todoni

Gauff might take on Romanian Tennis Player Anca Todoni in the second round. It is her maiden year as a pro, and she is coming off her first WTA 125 title beating Panna Udvardy in the finals of the Bari Open in Italy. Wimbledon will see her making her Grand Slam debut. She has been impressive, but it will be difficult to get past Coco Gauff who has been in impressive form.

Third Round: Sorana Cirstea

Gauff’s first big challenge might come in the third round, with Sorana Cirstea. The Romanian started the season well reaching the quarters of the Abu Dhabi Open and the semis in the Qatar Open. It also included a win against the defending Wimbledon Champion Marketa Vondrousova. The American will be wary of Cirstea’s ability and should overcome her to make it to the fourth round.

Fourth Round: Victoria Azarenka

It always gets trickier in the round of 16 and so it will be for Gauff. She could be facing a former World No. #1 in Victoria Azarenka. Not close to her best when she won the Australian Open a decade ago, Azarenka still can upset top players.

The Belarusian is in a mixed form in 2024 as she hasn’t been on the winning podium but has made it to semis and quarters. She will possess a tough challenge but Gauff could very well get the better of Azarenka. Incidentally, it was the 34-year-old Azarenka who won the only encounter between the two.

Quarter-final: Jasmine Paolini

One of the players who has a point to prove is Jasmine Paolini. The 2024 French Open runner-up has previously been at Southwest Area of London but haven’t gone past the first round. Given the form she is in, the Italian would like to push for at least a semi-final finish and Coco Gauff would be the obstacle.

Gauff has the upper hand in their head-to-head record with two wins from two games. But Paolini won her first WTA 1000 doubles title beating Gauff and her partner in the Italian Open. It will be an interesting battle to watch out for.

Semi-final: Aryna Sabalenka

The second seeded Coco Gauff could face third seed Aryna Sabalenka in the battle for a spot in the final. The Belarusian has been in top form winning the Australian Open in 2024. Enroute to her title, she beat Coco Gauff in the semis. But the American has the upper hand in their head-to-head record with four wins to three losses.

It will be a huge test for Gauff as Sabalenka has made a habit of making it to the finals of tournaments she has been playing in 2024. But the 26-year-old has an injury concern and has to overcome it to beat Coco Gauff.

Final: Iga Swiatek

Without any doubt, it will be World No. #1 Iga Swiatek who might be Gauff’s final opponent. The Polish star has been on a dream run this year winning five titles, including a historic fourth French Open title. While she has dominated the clay courts, the fans will be curious to see if Swiatek could continue her form in the Grass courts, where she has struggled historically.

The five-time Grand Slam winner has been sublime form this year with a win-loss record of 21-1. Her head-to-head record against Coco Gauff is on the similar lines of 11-1. It will be a huge test for the American and if she can beat Swiatek, then it will be a well-deserved title for Gauff.
