Novak Djokovic leads Carlos Alcaraz 3-2 in their head-to-head record.
Last year’s Wimbledon finalists, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic recently met each other at the All England Tennis Club and had a small conversation.
Carlos Alcaraz failed to defend his Queen’s Club Championships crown after suffering a disappointing second-round defeat against Jack Draper last week. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic recently arrived in London after his right knee surgery.
The two tennis stars faced each other in the summit clash at Wimbledon last season, where Carlos Alcaraz defeated the Serbian legend for his maiden grass major. The clash, a five-set marathon at the Centre Court, lasted 4 hours and 42 minutes, making it the third-longest Wimbledon final in the competition history by duration.
With a memorable scoreline of 1–6, 7–6 (8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4, Alcaraz broke Djokovic’s 34-match unbeaten streak at the Wimbledon Championships. In addition to that, Alcaraz also became the first player outside the Big Four to win the tournament since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002.
The two rivals recently met each other again before the start of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Alcaraz and Djokovic shared a hug and talked about the Serb’s knee injury. Djokovic said, “I’m trying. I have improved quickly. Young people are beasts.”
Nevertheless, Djokovic also talked about his participation in the third Grand Slam of the season. The 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medalist stated that he’s preparing to play the grass-court Major. However, his medical team will make the final decision about his participation. Thus, the upcoming 4-5 days are crucial for his preparation.

He said, “The plan was to try to play Wimbledon. That’s why I came here, to see how it goes. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t get permission from the medical team. I am taking things gradually. I’m going to make a decision based over the next 4-5 days.”
The Serb also affirmed that he will play with a mindset of winning the tournament, not just for the sake of participation. He added (via BBC Sport) “I didn’t come here to play a few rounds. I really will only play if I know I am in a state that is good enough to go far and fight for the title. If not, then I’ll give somebody else a chance to play.”
