The duo recorded impressive wins to make their way into the title decider of their draw.
All eyes were on the Women’s Singles bracket on Thursday at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The semi-final matches took place, at the end of which, the final lineup has been revealed. Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina will clash in the championship final on Saturday, 9 July 2022.
The final of the Women’s Singles draw will have the third seed and 17th seed clash for the coveted trophy. Winning the prestigious Grand Slam will be a new experience for both players. Neither of the two finalists has ever won Wimbledon before.
In fact, both have not won a Grand Slam yet in their career. Therefore, the upcoming final becomes an even more exciting prospect due to the high stakes on the line. The final appearance is the best performance by both individuals and they would like to end the journey on a positive note on Saturday.
Ons Jabeur’s Dominance
The third seed has been in excellent form throughout the 2022 Wimbledon Championships at the All England Club. The Tunisian star defeated Tatjana Marie of Germany by 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in Thursday’s semifinal to reach the championship final. This was only the second occasion where Jabeur was taken to the third set on her way to the final.
In the end, Ons Jabeur got the better of her competitor and friend Tatjana Marie in one hour and 43 minutes. The spectators at the Centre Court also lauded the German who was given a special round of applause by Jabeur after the match was over.
Unwavering Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina is creating history at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. She entered her first-ever Grand Slam final after upsetting 16th seed Simona Halep of Romania. Getting the better of a former Wimbledon champion was never going to be an easy task.
However, showing immense determination, Rybakina came away victorious thanks to a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 win over Simona Halep. It is worth noting that Elena has lost only one set throughout her journey at this year’s Wimbledon in Women’s Singles. It will be a mouth-watering clash between the World No. 23 and World No. 2 player in the final.
Doubles Action
There was a huge upset in the Men’s Doubles as the top seeds were eliminated. Joe Salisbury of the United Kingdom and Rajeev Ram of the United States of America lost their semi-final clash. Australian pair of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell got the better of the favourites to the title by a 3-6, 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (11-9), 6-4, 6-2 score.
Over-turning a two-set deficit against the top seeds was an outstanding achievement by the pair. The exhausting five-setter went on for a whopping three hours and 59 minutes. The second seeds Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic were also in action on Thursday.
