Wimbledon stands as the most prestigious tennis tournament, and simply participating is a proud achievement for any player. However, excelling on grass requires a unique set of skills that only the most complete players possess, enabling them to compete against the best on this challenging surface.
Unfortunately, injuries have once again taken their toll this season, forcing several high-profile players to withdraw. While the entry list still boasts plenty of quality and intrigue, the presence of those absent stars would have elevated the tournament even further.
Here’s a look at the top 12 players who’ve pulled out of Wimbledon 2026.
12. Jack Draper
Jack Draper’s last minute withdrawal announcement is a huge blow, as fans were eagerly anticipating to watch him play on Centre Court against Taylor Fritz. The recurrence of the arm injury that has plagued him for more than a year, looks to have once again troubled Draper, just when the British star was looking to make a comeback on the ATP tour.
This marks Draper’s third consecutive Grand Slam absence and is another major setback for the former world No. 4, whose promising rise has been repeatedly interrupted by fitness issues. After making the 2024 US Open semi-finals and winning Indian Wells in 2025, the 24-year-old has played only 15 matches over the past year
11. Emma Raducanu
The Brit No. 1 Emma Raducanu withdrew from the Grand Slam, just one day ahead of the opening day. Question marks hovered over her participation, and Raducanu confirmed that a stress fracture in her lower right leg has forced her to make this difficult decision. After reaching the finals at Queen’s Club, Raducanu had also pulled out of the Nottingham Open.
10. Reilly Opelka
Reilly Opelka will miss Wimbledon 2026, having now been absent from tennis action ever since his first-round exit at Roland Garros, and will be replaced in the main draw by Czech player Dalibor Svrcina.
9. Arthur Cazaux
Arthur Cazaux has withdrawn from Wimbledon 2026 as he continues to recover from a serious right elbow injury. The Frenchman underwent surgery in Bordeaux in April and is expected to remain sidelined for around six months, with Alex Molcan replacing him in the main draw.
8. Sonay Kartal
Local hope Sonay Kartal has been ruled out of SW19 after failing to recover from a stress fracture in her back that has sidelined her since Indian Wells in March.
The British No. 2 confirmed she will miss the entire grass-court season, admitting there had been “no big improvements” despite months of rehabilitation. Kartal had reached the fourth round of Wimbledon last year, and will likely drop outside the top-100 WTA rankings due to her absence.
7. Thomas Machac
Thomas Machac has withdrawn from the All England Club Championships 2026 after failing to recover from a tear in his left foot sustained before the grass-court season. The Czech, who has not competed since his second-round defeat to Alexander Zverev at Roland Garros, confirmed that the injury had not healed sufficiently for him to return. His withdrawal opens the door for Jesper de Jong, who moves directly into the main draw.
6. Marketa Vondrousova
2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been suspended from professional tennis for four years after refusing to provide a sample during an out-of-competition anti-doping test in December 2025. The Czech maintained that she never used performance-enhancing drugs and said she refused the test because an agent arrived outside her declared testing window.
However, the International Tennis Integrity Agency ruled that her explanation did not justify refusing the test, banning her from all ITF, WTA, ATP and Grand Slam events until June 21, 2030, although she retains the right to appeal the decision.
5. Hailey Baptiste
Hailey Baptiste has been ruled out of Wimbledon 2026 after suffering a devastating ACL and meniscus injury to her left knee during her second-round match at Roland Garros. The 24-year-old American landed awkwardly while chasing a shot against Wang Xiyu and was forced to retire in tears before leaving the court in a wheelchair.
Her agent later confirmed that Baptiste will undergo surgery and is expected to be sidelined for at least six months, ending her grass-court season and ruling her out of the year’s third Grand Slam.
4. Victoria Mboko
Victoria Mboko had to pull out of SW19 after suffering a left medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury during her second-round match against Karolina Pliskova at the Queen’s Club Championships. The 19-year-old slipped on the grass and was forced to retire from the match, with the injury also ending her doubles campaign alongside Serena Williams.
Confirming her withdrawal, Mboko said, “My fall on Wednesday caused an injury to the MCL on my left knee, which sadly means I will miss the remainder of the grass season. This unfortunately means Wimbledon too, a tournament I had been so looking forward to playing this year.”
3. Valentin Vacherot
Valentin Vacherot was ruled out of Wimbledon 2026 due to a stress fracture and significant bone edema in his foot, injuries that first surfaced towards the end of the Madrid Open. The issue had already forced him to skip the Rome and Hamburg events before Roland Garros, and despite attempting a comeback in Paris, he opted to miss the entire grass-court season to focus on recovery.
Explaining his decision, Vacherot said, “It is officially a stress fracture with significant bone edema… Grass is dead, Wimbledon is dead. If I’m back on the match courts in a month and a half, I’ll take it as a reset to arrive fresh for this second part of the season.”
2. Lorenzo Musetti
Lorenzo Musetti withdrew from Wimbledon 2026 as he continues his recovery from a rectus femoris (thigh) injury sustained at the Italian Open in Rome.
Although his rehabilitation has progressed well, the 2024 Wimbledon semi-finalist revealed that he has not yet resumed full athletic training and, after consulting with his medical team, decided to skip the grass-court Grand Slam to ensure he returns to competition only when fully fit.
1. Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz will miss Wimbledon 2026 as he continues his recovery, after suffering a right wrist injury during the Barcelona Open in April. The injury had already forced the Spaniard to miss the remainder of the clay-court season, including the French Open, with his team opting not to risk a premature return ahead of one of the biggest events on the calendar.
Announcing his withdrawal, Alcaraz said: “My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible.”
