Top five women's singles players with most match wins at Wimbledon

Martina Navratilova holds the record for winning the most matches at Wimbledon.

The women’s Wimbledon event has seen a new champion every year since 2016, reflecting the level of difficulty of SW19. However, this was not the story until a few years ago, when the top players consistently produced good results year after year.

Here we explore the distinguished group of women who have recorded the most victories at the All England Club, etching their names into tennis history.

5. Steffi Graf – 74 wins

Competing at SW19 14 times from 1984 to 1999, Steffi Graf captured seven singles titles (1988, 1989, 1991–93, 1995, 1996) and finished as runner-up twice. The German’s first title in 1988 was part of her brilliant Golden Slam, winning all four majors and Olympic gold in a single year.

Graf’s aggressive forehand, foot speed, and ability to adapt her game made her a perennial favorite at Wimbledon, retiring with a 74-7 match record at the All England Club.

4. Venus Williams – 90 wins

Venus Williams made her debut in 1997 and called time on her career with five singles titles (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008) and four runner-up finishes. Venus’s 90-19 match record reflects her sustained excellence and longevity. Her rivalry with her sister Serena produced several classic finals, and her ability to compete at the highest level well into her 30s is a testament to her fitness and determination.

3. Chris Evert – 96 wins

Chris Evert’s Wimbledon journey spanned 19 years, from 1972 to 1989, during which she amassed a 96-15 record. Evert won three singles titles (1974, 1976, 1981) and reached 10 finals, an Open Era record she shares with Navratilova and Serena Williams.

Known for her consistency, mental toughness, and precise baseline play, Evert adapted her clay-court strengths to succeed on grass, reaching the semifinals or better 10 consecutive years.

2. Serena Williams – 98 wins

Her 98-14 match record reflects her dominance on grass, where her serve and baseline aggression were unmatched. Her ability to return to the final multiple times after motherhood and injuries underscores her extraordinary competitive spirit and legacy at Wimbledon.

1. Martina Navratilova – 120 wins

Martina Navratilova has an unrivalled Wimbledon career, with a 120–14 match record and nine singles titles in 12 finals (1978, 1979, 1982–87, 1990). Competing at the All England Club 23 times from 1973 to 2004, Navratilova’s serve-and-volley mastery, athleticism, and relentless pursuit of excellence made her nearly unbeatable on grass.

The American reached the singles final nine consecutive years (1982–1990) and holds the record for most Wimbledon singles titles in history.
