Amanda Anisimova downed Ostapenko in straight sets to claim her first WTA-1000 title.
History was scripted at the WTA Qatar Open 2025, as Amanda Anisimova defeated Jelena Ostapenko in the final to lift her first ever title in Doha. The American crushed the Latvian, beating her 6-4, 6-3.
In the first Doha final to feature two players ranked outside the Top 30, former World No. 21 Anisimova triumphed in a big-hitting battle that lasted 1 hour and 21 minutes, along with two short rain delays on a drizzly day in Doha.
The 2025 Qatar Open is Anisimova’s maiden WTA-1000 title, and just her third overall. Currently ranked 41st in the world, the American now finds herself on the brink of a potential Top 20 debut. Moreovr, Anisimova is also the first American to win the Doha title since Monica Seles back in 2002.
Amanda Anisimova’s route to glory was tricky but she dropped just one set along the way. Her sensational campaign included victories over Victoria Azarenka, Paula Badosa, Leah Fernandez, Marta Kostyuk, Ekaterina Alexandrova and finally Jelena Ostapenko in the finale.
Unfortunately, it was a familiar ending for Jelena Ostapenko, as the Latvian suffered the same fate as 2016. This was her second defeat in a Qatar Open final.
