The race for the second spot in WTA Rankings has intensified although Iga Swiatek remains in the lead.
Jessica Pegula thrashed a tired Elina Svitolina in the Dubai Open 2026 final to clinch her fourth Masters trophy. The American previously also overcame Amanda Anisimova, Clara Tauson and Iva Jovic to end her title drought.
As a result, she solidified her position at No. 5, reducing the deficit between Coco Gauff and herself. Runner-up Elina Svitolina also improved her position inside the top-10.
Defending champion Mirra Andreeva slipped to No. 7, dropping 785 points due to her quarter-final finish. Karolina Muchova fell to #13, after pulling out from the competition while Clara Tauson dropped to #17.
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has a massive lead at the top of the ranking charts, but the story to watch out for is the No. 2 spot. Iga Swiatek leads by nearly 400 points, but Elena Rybakina defends almost no points at the upcoming Sunshine Double. This sets up for a fascinating battle between two of the best players in the WTA tour.
