Wuhan Open: Full list of title winners
Petra Kvitova had won the singles title at the inaugural edition of Wuhan Open.
The Wuhan Open is one of the 10 WTA 1000 tournaments on the WTA Tour. Owing to the success of the China Open and the other major WTA tennis tournaments in the Asian nation, the WTA established the Wuhan Open in 2014. This made China the only country after the United States to host more than one WTA 1000 tournament.
Like the China Open (hosted in Beijing), the Wuhan Open is also a hard court outdoor tournament. The Wuhan Open is the final major WTA tournament before the WTA Finals every year.
The Wuhan Open was forced to go into a four-year hiatus as the city was at the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament didn’t take place in the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Given the tournament’s young age, it has one of the lowest prize pools of the WTA 1000 tournaments. The total prize pool for a WTA 1000 tournament ranges between US$2-10m, since the inception of the new structure of WTA tournaments. Wuhan Open 2024 will have a total cash reward of just above US$3m.
Petra Kvitova of Czechia became the first player to win multiple titles in Wuhan. Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus became the first player to win consecutive titles at the tournament, whereas former Swiss superstar Martina Hingis has won the doubles title thrice, each with a different partner.
Let’s have a look at the winners of the women’s singles and women’s doubles titles at the Wuhan Open over the years.
